Dr. Laura Done With Radio!!

She just announced it live on Larry King Live! What will KFWB do now?!

I bet this is because of that "n-word" controversy. Very low move of her anyway...

Just as I began to read this with my radio was on KBIZ-AM1240 a promo for Dr. Laura's show came on. If that isn't synchronicity I don't know what is.

I suspect that she was told that her ratings weren't so good and rather than embarrassing her they have allowed her to exit gracefully. Here she is carried delayed in the evening, as filler I am sure. Like her or not, I don't, she has been on for a long time and was once widely followed so she deserves a dignified treatment. The beginning of the end was probably the KFI decision to dump her.

She deserves to be made to sit down with a copy of the Constitution before she so ignorantly opens her mouth again. She whined, to Larry King, about people protesting against affiliates and sponsors because of the controversy and she wants to go somewhere and do something where her first amendment rights are not being trampled upon. Pumpkin....the first amendment prohibits the government from infringing upon your rights. Civil protests, on the other hand, are one of the great legacies of this country. She is trying to make herself sound like a victim, when the reality is her show is years past being interesting or viable.

I find it funny that the Has Beens and the Never Beens in radio are so critical about various radio hosts. If it is so easy to get ratings why have any of you did it yet? If all these cry babies want to force on talk radio listeners politically correct bland talkers I suggest a place to get what you want the show is called Sesame Street. If you find it a good thing that a special interest group (AKA Extortion Rackets) that is usually comprised of 2 people can shake down affiliates and advertisers to shut up a voice that goes to millions then you can't be a true believer in the first amendment. Finally a piece advice to all the haters who always are so negative towards radio talk hosts/personalities..... just because you will never be successful as the people you criticize and live everyday with envy and jealousy of them you need break from your own mental prison before it kills you.

CBS is over the market limit by one, and KFWB is on the block. Presumption is that it will be foreign language upon sale.

It always seemed a bit dishonest to market her as a personal advice guru, her degree and her training were in something like physical education, not psychology. So she was as qualified to speak about personal relationships, to give advice to people who came seeking guidance, as an accountant would be to fix your plumbing, or a plumber to do your taxes. I hope if she is replaced it will be by somebody who is actually qualified by training and experience to give personal advice.

Except a sale doesn't appear imminent, and she walks in four months. So back to the question...how does KFWB fill the time Dr. Laura currently occupies?

And given that CBS could keep KFWB in its current trust indefinitely, what are the odds that the station will attempt to trade up in terms of image and relevance with the next show?

You must have some major hatred built up yourself. I don't think anyone on here was commenting in jealousy. If I were jealous of anyone I would be of Howard Stern because I had his show mapped out in the 70s but no one would let me do it. But rather than sit in my darkened room and cry about it I moved on, I had moved on by the time Howard went national.

My only objection to Dr. Laura was and is that she is a phony on so many levels and that she was needlessly cruel to the callers at times. She worked for her success and she deserved it but that doesn't mean I had to like her show. I guess I could be a hypocrite because I do enjoy "Handel on the Law" at times, but then he does it in jest and does not pretend that his legal advice is good.

Having been on-air, I was going to respond to your post and then I tried reading through sentences like, ".....why have any of you did it yet?" Decided it wasn't worth it.

There was an early West Wing episode that took a not so veiled shot at the Dr. Laura's of the world. The White House was hosting a reception for talk radio hosts. There was a blonde, homophobic, femal host, who went by "Dr.", and gave life advice, even though, as the president pointed out, her Ph.D was in Englsih literature.

Meanwhile in Heaven, Bill Ballance is still showing nude slides of Laura Schlessinger in her prime to Bob Crane and having a good laugh as they compare notes to the amount of tail they would get.

Bob Crane: Dead at 49.

Bill Ballance: Dead at 86.

Just shows it's all in how you go about it.

Eagle Forum and the Christian Coalition have their lecture circuits waiting, I'm sure.

This has got to be one of the worst threads on this board for a long time, and that is saying something.

The hate that regularly fills these posts to a lady who is very successful, not just in broadcasting, but as an author as well, should be nothing short of embarrassing to the posters who make them and the board that hosts them. She has been doing it for the better part of 20 years, many of those at they very top of the profession. She is in a very select company among the most successful broadcasters ever.

So she doesn't do it the way you would, (or you, or you, or even you, for that matter - and you all know who YOU are), so what? So she has a different set of values than you, so what? So she does radio different than you, so what?

Instead of doing the honorable thing and just flipping the dial to something you do like, you have to mock her, slime her, and accuse her over the years of any number of things,(most of which were never true). Of course she has human weaknesses and made errors along the way, both in her personal and professional lives that she would like back, just like anyone else. The only difference is, she lives in the spotlight 24/7, with her whole life available for scrutiny to any hack miscreant who appoint themselves sanctimoniously as judge, jury, and executioner. These people most likely couldn't hold up to the same level of scrutiny she has lived with for years for even a single day. Frankly, she has more class on her worst day than these commenters will have on their best.

You all need to give it a rest.
