Dre on KKEG

D

I was listening to this guy yesterday at about 12 noon and he said that The Eagles were like the Backstreet boys in the way that they formed.....

He said that they were "Put Together" by Linda Ronstadt's manager to be her backing group. Now, he is correct in the fact that they were recruited by Ronstadt's manager, but these guys were LA session musicians that worked with each other and knew each other, including Linda Rondstadt very well. The Backstreet Boys were a bunch of dancers with zero musical talent that were put together to sell horrible music to children by some idiot with dollar signs in his eyes...

THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!!!!

(Note to KKEG......keep this guy on KMCK....)

Yeah, that sounds pretty much "the same"...Eagles, Backstreet Boys, N-Sync, O-Town....yep, that's correct.

The only difference in the formation was/is "The time period"...

Sorry Diz, but Dre is correct, sort of.

Sorry Ugly Ed, Dre is 100% DEAD WRONG....

The time period has nothing to do with the comment. What is he gonna do next, compare Roger Waters to Justin Timberlake??????....Get some people on there that know there rock history (one would think that would be important, considering that KKEG is classic rock). The last thing that the KEG needs is a jock comparing real rock to bad, chessy garbage put together by a big fat guy who fled the country that is now in prison......

Oooh, I can see this getting ugly, but anyway:

The members of The Eagles are all consummate musicians. All of them can stand on their own work. They have endured for decades…and the guy’s comparing them to The Backstreet Boys? Was it a joke? The Eagles have been around for what, 35 years or so? Please.

If there IS any advantage to the time period, it has to go to the Backstreet Boys. In the 70’s you had to put out good music because that’s all the public was exposed to. Nowadays, if you have a snazzy video with some dance moves, the music can take a back seat in quality. Britney Spears comes to mind.

I'm with DIZ on this one.

Kinda like when they were Scotch-taping together The Monkees. Had this guy who for sure was a consummate picker, damn good singer, too. But those teeth! Wouldn't look right in Bubble Gum City, so they took a pass. 's OK, Stephen worked out better with Buffalo Springfield; Manassas; and Crosby, Stills, and Nash.

(Allegedly.)

Proves my personal thought. It has everthing to do with "taste". Diz dislikes the Backstreet boys (so do I), but music, regardless of how it's made, sells.

The big fat nasty flordian that threw the BSB together was simply in it for the money. However, it was music, regardless if we like it or not. It sold millions of copies and they all went their seperate ways.

I believe the Eagles have gone their seperate ways several times also. Only getting back together when they need the money. It's all the same, just a different """"TIME PERIOD""".

Forget "personal taste", it's about the music...and the only thing that is different is...the year...or time period.

Beatles, Stones, Nickelback, Paramore, NKTOB, blah blah blah....some call a few of them artist, others projects, others money makers....you get the point...it's the time period.

I look at music as a business...other's call it artistry....whatever you call it, it's money, industry...

"The big fat nasty floridian".....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

I like that...

Hey man, why don't you just leave us alone and go check into the Hotel California...

I'm not gettin' a very Peaceful Easy Feeling about this...

I hope there's at least one difference...please, dear Music Director in the sky, don't let there ever be any BSBs on Classic Rock radio...Amen.

The words "Backstreet Boys" should not even be MENTIONED on classic rock radio...

....and to think, I sometimes get grief from people when I compare Lil Wayne with Christopher Cross.

Ahhhh..

Christopher Cross....Now that is a guy whose career was pretty much destroyed by MTV. He had a ton of hits between 1980-early '81, but his image ( chubby dude with a fro and a beard ) was not what MTV was looking for....

I wonder what Lil' Wayne would do if he got caught between the moon and New York City......

Other Musical Sensations of the late 70's/early 80's who were doomed when they were forced to make videos, revealing all of their ugly, cheesy glory...

1. Styx...Had alot of success until they let their lead singer "Act" in the "Kilroy was Here" film..(I am not talking about the video for "Mr. Roboto", I am talking about this excrutiating short film that was about 15 minutes long that these guys did for the "Kilroy Was Here" album.....YIKES!!!!!!!)

2. Blue Oyster Cult....The video for "Burning For You" should've been called "Burned Out Long Haired Seventies Dudes with Trench coats on..."

3. REO Speedwagon....Kevin Cronin.....I do not think that I need to elaborate...However, they made a good video for the track "One Lonely Night"....

4. Journey....Whoever instucted these guys to run around in that abanded junk yard telling us how to go our "Separate ways" should be arrested...

MTV KILLED these guys.....

I would add Hall & Oates to this list. They were outspoken and resistant to make videos on MTV to sell their music. I guess they thought "I can't go for that (no can do)"

Christopher bleepin' Cross!!! Just seeing that name in print, flashes me back to a discussion about a year ago on the Louisiana board, about the worst songs we'd ever had to play. I submitted--from my WRNO afternoon-drive days--Streisand's "Evergreen." The (alleged) music consultant defended that by saying, "Yeaahhhh...dat's from dat movie, A Stah is Bohn. Dat's da #1 movie wit' 18-34. And ouah tahget audience is 18-34. So...dat's a poifec' song fo' ouah audience." Same era, same shift, same station, same (alleged) music consultant and I had gotten into a couple of pretty vigorous confrontations over the crap music we were playing. So I was instructed to make no deviation whatsoever in the music selection. Other than for artist-sep purposes, play whatever came up next in that 3x5 card box. Imagine, if you will, segging from "Cat Scratch Fever," then doing "It's 5 o'clock at the Rock of New Orleans, WRNO/FM-100" over CC's "Sailing." My five-hours-ago breakfast just curdled at the memory.
