DSC back in the air on July 12?

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/bringbackdsc?ref=ts answers are somewhat there.just dont know what station yet..

Wow, nice to know that they're really coming back and when exactly, unlike *cough*Jeff and Jer*cough*.

Let me start by saying I'm a big DSC fan. But there is one huge component missing in this equation. If DSC (arguably the most successful morning show team in SD history), is returning to the airwaves, WHERE ARE THE PROMOS? Where are the on-air teases? Where are the website teases? Where is the contesting component driving people to listen. If I was an operator bringing in a high-priced, and historically successful morning show, I would tease and promote the heck out of it. That isn't happening. Why? Maybe DSC is filling in for a day or a week for an existing show? Not sure, but it seems highly unusual that this is being kept a secret. That's not something radio does typically. They tend to clobber listeners over the head until they are sick.

Right, and to put an exclamation on it, my observation has been that usually a week prior to a morning show change, another morning team has to go, or sometimes, and entire radio format entriely. We are always tipped at least a week or so out.

Yet, there is no sign of a format changing, and no morning team is currently out, with just days to go, with maybe the exception of 91X (which seems to skew too young for the current DSC, and there's no sign that 91X is changing formats).

On the other hand, looks can be deceiving, and Thursday afternoon at 3pm is the end of the radio week (or used to be, anyway). Either the radio gods are actually keeping a very big secret (something they rarely do well), or we'll find out from SDradio.net and other sources sometime tomorrow or Thursday of something going down.

As it stands now, it does appear to be one massive mystery.

And maybe that is the promotion: they've got a viral buzz going without spending a dime and if DSC do indeed show up Monday morning on a new station the buzz will get real loud.

Apparently Ruth66 seems to know where DSC is headed but isn't sharing any details:

I agree with the others that it does seem really strange to keep something like this undercover. Maybe the morning show they are replacing is getting canned on Friday and DSC will take their place the following Monday?

Hm, what's that about a non-compete clause? Hm?
But I thought this was a done deal? Why was this info given to the estate if it wasn't a done deal? Did DSC really believe that they were going to just ignore a non-compete? If I was an active news Journalist and a reliable source gave me incorrect information, and I reported it, I'd be pretty unhappy.

The countdown clock is gone from SDradio.net

What's this non-compete clause that's keeping the DSC from returning to radio. Hmmm. Would it be KGB-FM itself, their recent former home, that they're really returning to? Possible? As long as they're still under contract, the only station they could return to would be KGB-FM and no other station. Thoughts?

It does not sound like a non-compete but rather that they are still getting paid under their Clear Channel contract. Wasn't there talk when they went off the air that their contract had not yet expired?

I think, we can conclude they aren't returning to KGB, or Rock 105.

Which now begs the question, who was it?
91x? Nope.
94/9? Nope.
102.1? (Bursts out laughing!)

Uh, which leaves the Walrus...
Lets see... Dave Mason's the PD, knows them well, and the Walrus could use staff.
Only trouble there? May skew a little too old for DSC, and the music is more pop than rock.
Plus, does LMA/BMA have the sheckels?

Someone would have to change formats, or DSC would have to go somehwere different.
Oh, how's my buddy Jack?

My best bet would be 100.7 Jack FM. Even though Jack stations are jockless, 104.3 Jack FM in Chicago had Steve Dahl in the morning drive until late 2008.

Follow the money...

Who's got money to spend? Even at a drastic discount from their CC paydays, this would still cost someone a lot of coin until and if such time as ad revenues increase enough that it pays for itself (and with an aging act in today's economy that's not a given).

KPRI's owners have never been risk takers - they've run that place on the cheap. The folks who run KFMB (and who are they?????) also seem to delight in doing things on a budget.

So who's the risk taker among owners of San Diego stations?

I could see DSC on 100.7 FM, but not as a Jack. The music is not hard edge enough.
Of course, I erred on even thinking 100.7 would never go JACK, and was wrong about that.

My opnion (and its only mine) is that putting DSC 100.7 in it's JACK FM format would be a waste of money. As a Classic Rocker or Rock based Classic Hits? Yeah, I could see that. Maybe they can call it "B100?"

BFFFFFFFFT, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, yeah, right!
