DTV TRANSITION

As mentioned in the National TV Board, the digital transition date was extended until June 12th, but stations can shut off the analog earlier. I just heard on ABC6 News at 11PM that all of Providence's TV stations are going to shut off their analog signals on February 17th. Does anyone know if the Boston TV stations are shutting off their analog on the 17th, too?

Fox 25 is the only one to notify as of yesterday morning, but it's still early and I wouldn't be surprised to see more stations added to that list.

I just called WCVB-TV 5 and they confirmed that they will shutoff the analog on the 17th, so I would speculate that since they share a tower with chs, 2, 4, 38, and 44, they too will go digital only at the same time. The engineer at ch.25 said that they will raise power to 780 KW soon after the switch. The station says he gets many calls every day from people not even knowing the change is occuring! I have not heard from chs. 7,56, 68, or 62, but they probably will switch on the 17th, too.

It should be very interesting on the 17th and 18th - great time to take a vacation at home and monitor the chaos! I say cut off the analog and feel the pain! ;D

How about the Hartford/New Haven stations? Are they all shuting off Feb. 17? On wfsb.com they still have their DTV countdown on the right side of the page with 12 days to go.

Nope, ths senate bill does not apply to everwhere but Hartford/New Haven. We don't get special exceptions! ;D
Ch. 3 and I suspect several others have not and will not change their reminders for some time.

WVIT-TV/DT is an NBC owned and operated station. I couldn't find anything on their website which stated if they were switching off analog now or in June. I'm aware that they're only running about 2/3 of their analog power due to lightning damage on their Farmington tower. WFSB-TV/DT (CBS) of Hartford has already stated that they are switching off as planned this month.

Of all of the Mass. stations, and not including WGGB Springfield and WLWC New Bedford, which are apparently digital-only already, only WLNE 6 New Bedford and WNYA 51 Pittsfield have filed to shut off analog on 2/17.

However, with new FCC rules published on 2/5, any station intending to shut down analog on 2/17 must again notify the FCC by the end of Monday 2/9, even if they've already given notice. So by Tuesday or Wednesday, we should know for sure who's shutting down analog.

what is the scoop in Boston?

As a CBS OnO 4 may be waiting for June :(
i believe 2,5,and 44 are a go for the 17th.

I know ch 7 is going from 42 to 7 as its permanent digital channel
25 and 50 are already done.
Not sure about 38,56,or 68.

Up in NH I know 11 is a go for the 17th but I am not sure about 9.

Bangor update and Portland news:

WVII-7 (ABC) will now shut off on Feb. 17 not the 16.
WLBZ-2 (NBC) will keep the analog on through June 12.

In Portland:
WGME-13 (CBS) will shut off on Feb. 17.
WPFO-23 (Fox) will shut off on Feb. 17.
WMTW-8 (ABC) will stay on through June 12.
WCSH-6 (NBC) gets the "Duh, we don't know" of the day today.
The rest of the Portland stations are already switched.

WFSB has taken away it's shrunken screen with the scrolling message at the bottom, not sure what this means, but I'm thinking most of Hartford/New Haven analog has only 10 more days!

NBC 30 is a NBC O&O so they won't go till June 12.
