You work at WSNX,,,, I actually think your station has amazing mixshows,,, as does KQI that KDL mentioned,,, and the station is my favorite rhythmic leaning chr in the midwest... You also carry a Dance station on your HD-2 yes?? i beleive a Phusion affiliate.
Thank you Midwest. Being someone who grew up in Florida and worked at WFLZ/Tampa, I've heard some GREAT mixshows. Even FLZ's competitor WLLD (Wild 94.1) has always had incredible mixers. I've never been a fan of syndicated or canned mix shows. They NEVER EVER actually represent the city or the region properly. Mix shows should be done by locals who spin in the area/region. There are a few exceptions:
- DJ Grooves whom we've used on Fri and Sat nights for four years now and is now in Detroit.
- DJ Goofy Whitekid (partners with Grooves) whom we've used in our weekday 5pm hour for several years now. Goofy is now based at WFLZ.
- Kidd Leow is also based at FLZ, someone who extremely passionate about what he does and has done a great job syndicating himself, even to New York recently on 92.3 Now.
- And for house fans, FLZ's Saturday Night House Party with Brian Fink is now available to syndicate. I would recommend this show to any PD who is smart enough to realize that top 40 is moving more towards the dance sound again and doesn't have at least an hour or two of his mix shows dedicated to the sound. Brian has been doing this show for a LONG time and get's incredible interviews. I believe he also handles the music for Club Phusion. (Club Phusion used to be our HD-2 on WSNX, it was flipped Oct of last year to mainstream urban do to the fact there is no urban FM in our market)
(I'm a little biased to FLZ I know, but you have to admit, they have bred some incredible talent)
We are so lucky in West Michigan to have so many talented local DJ's, spinning anything from top 40 to house to dubstep. Eventually it became impossible to ignore. Also, I think station programmers fail to realize the advantage and buzz your local DJ's/mixers bring to your radio station. And if you partner with them correctly, they also bring revenue in as well.
TO KDM: You never knew WSNX existed? Did you know Grand Rapids existed? lol. No seriously, WSNX has been West Michigan's CHR for 15 years. We're kind of the quiet powerhouse. =-)
If any of you get the chance to listen to Club 104 Five on Sundays, I would LOVE to hear what you think. Be brutally honest. I would put my DJ's up against the major market DJ's anyday, I'm interested if you guys would feel the same way. If you dont want to post here, feel free to e-mail me direct at
