Dusty's Christmas Thing

1) They won't stick with it because of the inferior sound quality...
2) At night, they'll be fiddling with the radio dial wondering what happened to the station because reception isn't as good.

Too much work for the average listener...

Until Dusty can get the station on an FM signal in town, he'll be "small potatoes" compared to MIX and WARM.

And what FM station would that be? Unless there is a station they can LMA, Dusty will have to settle for WDJO which streams at 40k if you're concerned with audio quality.

Dusty's Christmas show is the best Christmas show that I have ever heard on the radio, over the many years of listening to the radio. Dusty's Christmas show has been heard on 89 WLS in Chicago, the #3 market in the United States. I wonder why so many stations sign up for show? I have heard many younger people comment to me that Dusty is an awesome jock. There is not a Top 40 or any modern music jock in Cincinnati that would try to compare themselves to Dusty, no way. Mark Sebastian was a very good Top 40 jock, yet, he is not in the same league with Dusty. As I have heard many of the younger jocks state, "They would listen to Dusty to see how the Master did it."

Both NDXU Fan and FRR, I agree with you. Dusty does a good job on his Christmas show and kudos to the man for being able to syndicate the show the past couple of years and even get it on XM this past holiday season but let's face facts here. Forty-five years of tradition won't get the average listener to seek out this show. Radio geeks will find Dusty on a 10kw daytimer out of Aberdeen but not Regular Joe. And if they do find the show on WDJO...

I guess he was small potatoes on 700? You can listen to Dusty and be entertained or listen to MIX and WARM and fall asleep.

Aberdeen, Ohio does not have a radio station.

No s**t sherlock! It was a joke..like Dusty's ratings since the winter of 2003.

Dusty may not have great ratings, but he is very well known. Why do you think he was elected Hamilton County Auditor, and relected all these times. It wasn't for his reputation as a financial genius, even though his actions have consistently attempted to save taxpayers money and most would agree that he has done a good job. (Hard to do in a county where almost all other office holders are Republicans). I have only talked to the guy once or twice, and don't claim to know him at all, but I don't think he is trying to be the next Real Don Steele. I think he loves the music, and has some investors who just want to make a living doing what they love. Yes, he is getting older, and so are his listeners, but that audience base is extremely loyal to this guy. I think the respect that the Cincinnati area affords him would not exist if he had decided to do "whatever" to stay on a top rated station, ie, playing hip hop on The Whiz. Just wouldn't have worked. We all know the day will come when he hangs it up, but many in his listener base hopes that will be a long time. He found a home when he arrived here 1961, and I think he realizes this town has been good to him. His audience is composed of many who were among the first group of kids to have mass avaliability of music, and they,(we) will listen to it until the day we die. I'll just bet that as long as he can find a station, his Christmas program will be braodcast.

Cheese and Crackers, Dusty! You need to get a new handle, because your FRR alias has been totally blown. Despite your protests to the contrary, all one needs to do is go back and re-read your posts to know it's you.

That being said, I don't disagree with what you say, and don't think you need to offer up any defense of your continued existence on air. There are many, many who enjoy you and your legacy. You don't need to explain yourself to those who don't. That's why there's chocolate AND vanilla.

I can assure you that I am not Dusty operating under an alias. As I said in my post, I don't even know the man. I do feel bad if my posts give the impression of being Dusty. I'm just a radio listener who enjoys the information that I pick up on the Boards and learn from the give and take. I've always studied different radio formats over the years, and it is kind of an avoation of mine... But in a way, I will consider your comment a compliment. Thank you.
