DX Season Beginning on Arctic SDR

Interesting conditions on the Arctic SDR last night around 9:00 pm CST. Weak but steady signal from Radio Atlantica in Argentina on 760 kHz. Also heard VOWR, St. John's, Newfoundland on 800 kHz with good signal.

Very good North American reception on the Arctic SDR last night. looks like the auroral conditions are over.

WYLL 1160 Chicago strong but mixing with another station. Also good was WSSP Milwaukee, WI on 1250. Others heard:

1270 WXYT Detroit, MI
1390 WLCM Holt, MI
1430 WFOB Fostoria, OH
1460 KXNO, Des Moines, i
1470 WMBD Peoria, IL

Many others noted, but did not have time to spend on IDiing all of them.

Wow, little WFOB? I used to depend on them at night in Toledo to hear Ohio State basketball games if the local affiliate had a conflict.
Better enjoy Arctic DX season while it lasts. More daylight every day.

Glad to hear that. I've been hearing nothing and thought the season was about over, but I'll give it another shot. Do you remember about what time this was?

I spent about an hour on the receiver starting around 7pm Chicago time.

I tried the receiver also this afternoon and there was fairly good reception of Chinese and Japanese stations along with countless Iranian blasters.

Sadly the Arctic Kiwi SDR has come to an end. The owner has announced that they are being turned off. Here is the announcement:

It will be greatly missed by this DXer.

Definitely sad to see this experiment come to an end. I logged some very cool stations on that SDR, Alaskans, Midwest stations, many Puget Sound AMs, and lots of Asians.

This time of year there was always something on it because there was always a darkness path to somewhere from the Arctic.

Very sad news indeed. Considering the logistical problems with keeping it operating, I can understand it though.

It was good while it lasted. Interesting that Bjarne says nothing's come along to replace the computer board. I'd have to think someone who knows his way around computers (which is certainly not me) could come up with a replacement.

Most interesting SDR out there...at least during winter. IMHO,. I'll definitely miss it.
