Eagle - Change ?

On their website:

It's a new year and change is coming to Dayton.
Listen Thursday morning after Bubba The Love Sponge®.
Have you heard the Eagle lately?

My guess is for them to nudge in between 'TUE and 'XEG and drop the Classic Hits format altogether and go with harder-edged rock, or maybe Classic Alternative Rock? We'll see Thu. morning I guess.

From what I remember, that PD loves rock. And he said Bubba is here to stay so I highly doubt it's anything too far away from rock. Unless Cox is fed up with those horrible ratings.

I don't understand the riddle.

Have you listened to the Eagle lately?

The answer is no, nobody is, which is why you're planning to change it? I could see this be a promotional stunt to build cume.

Jammin:

With all due respects, it would be nice if you actually knew something about what you're talking about before you make statements on this board.

I work with the PD. He doesn't care whether any station plays rock, country, dance, urban (remember - Cox owns several successful Urban stations - or did you ever know that?), whatever. He just wants to find what's right for the station and do it.

Anything will be better than what it is now. Worse rotation of classic hits I've ever heard.

If you check Mediabase, or any other station "monitoring" service, you'd find the exact list of Classic Hits on Eagle is on virtually every successful Classic Hits, and several Classic Rock stations in America. So, "rotation" certainly isn't an issue.

Well, you gave me confidence that it might be something different than what we've been getting. You know, you would know considering you're "One Who Knows" who admitted you're with the PD. Well, since you're with the PD, tell the PD I respect his passion for Classic Hits and for keeping Bubba on the air, but it's not working here. And that's not my opinion or anybody else who for years have stated on this board that it sucks, it's a fact. There's so many formats we need here. I hope he makes a smart decision.

Rob, valid point.

However! A signal is a signal. Although, it'd be hard to get steady ratings on a signal like that, if you give listeners a reason to listen, they'll listen. For example, if it's Urban, they might have 1029 their #1 preset, but 953 their second for the simple fact that it's an alternative. If I was 953, I wouldn't focus on beating anyone. I'd focus on stealing listeners from somewhere else.

I'd go CHR. Second CHR's are working! Look at KIIS, then look how AMP is making a difference to LA. Similar to Z103 (103.1 in Columbus), HORRIBLE signal, but when they came with Urban, there were people that listened to both 1075 and 1031. The reason it's not urban now, a mexican radio group offered Z 1 mil to sell.

My point is, give Dayton a reason to listen, listeners will listen. If Cox doesn't do it, I'll wait patiently for someone to do it, like I have for years.

I'm waiting for 953 to release another riddle. Make it fun.

There are many reasons a station, borrowing your words, "doesn't work". Sometimes it's a wrong fit, sometimes it's market conditions. My only complaint with what you and some others post here is that it's always a "one size fits all" solution.
Y'know, "They need to go CHR...they need to go Alternative...they need to go rhythmic". None of you consider market conditions, or any of the other variables which can have a major influence on whether a station succeeds or not. Smart programmers consider these variables. If CHR is the answer, you go CHR. If it's Alternative, so be it. If it's something else...do it!

Bubba's numbers are up...so much for your suggestion, "it doesn't work here".

You talk about so many "formats Dayton needs". Did you ever consider that, maybe...those formats have been researched? And maybe that's why they're not on the air?

Those of you who think stations don't consider these things all the time...just don't know how it actually works.

Nick (I believe the PD is named) made it clear that Bubba is here to stay when he first entered the market. Either, he didn't think about if the station would ever fail, or Bubba's really not going anywhere. Bubba fits on a rock or talk format. I honestly don't think Nick's gonna drop Bubba. I actually believe his numbers are up, but what about when he's not on?

And I wasn't referring to Bubba, when I said it doesn't work. 95-3 ZLR did not work. 953 The Eagle does not work. So what? Another 953 name change with the same music?

Oh, and I believe that the reason Rhythmic and CHR isn't here is because nobody has the balls to go up against HOT 1029 and an easy to beat Channel 945.

Well said "One" and THANK YOU FOR SAYING IT!

95-3, ZLR actually beat WTUE in, I think it was, afternoon drive early in it's Classic Rock days, so to suggest it "didn't work" doesn't match reality. What happened after that was that CC spent 6 figures in promotional money to shore up TUE's base...which did work for them. But, at a price.

The Eagle has worked fine for a number of years (hitting as high as a 5-6 share in demo), so wanna guess again?

I'd be glad to take on Hot 102-9 if I had a 50,000 watt signal to do it with. That's me speaking personally, of course, not the company. 94-5? They're an afterthought to me, but with the right signal, Dayton deserves a CHR.

Again, Jammin' read the "active" words..."with the right signal".
