Sorry. You are wrong. It's true I talked with Mr. Gambill and tried to get on at the Bull some time back, but they weren't hiring weekend on-air staff then. Since then, I haven't heard anyone on weekends except the regulars, and they seem to voice track at least part of it.

And I never said the Bull improvements were attributed to any one person, I just made note of some of the positive changes in an early part of the thread to better numbers in Gregg County this time around, and in Smith County last time. But to copmlete my comments, those Smith County numbers seemed to disappear this time, so the Bull is probably no better off now than ever.

LOL! I'm not a "he", I'm a "she"... and my "connections" ARE in a radio station with access to the book and other information, but apparently not where or who you may be thinking.

I do have one question though. If "Rusty owes what little success he has with the Bull to Don"... (see above) and everyone keeps saying the Bull is a failed station, aren't you really saying Rusty owes the failure to Don? LOL!

(Just kidding Don, I think your the best thing the Bull has, and enjoy listening.)

LOL again! I'm not taking it seriously. I don't take any of this seriously. There's not a serious, intelligent, thoughtful, courteous, talented, decent, moral, worthy person on the whole board! HA! (now, don't YOU take this seriously Breeze!)

But like I said earlier, beating up on people (even Dru at KYKX) doesn't serve any purpose to improve or better the business. I just think it's time for everyone to focus on the fact that radio is getting beat to death by tv, cable, newspaper, XM, Sirius, CD's, the Internet and a host of other competition.

It just seems to me it would be better for everyone to work together instead of constantly trying to tear each other apart. But then, I guess that's just human nature.

Like I said earlier, I haven't been on the boards in a while, and probably won't check in again until the next "ratings time, let's see who we can bash" period happens. When is that... January or February, right?

No, I work for a mass media company that owns multiple stations. I know how billing works. When you have a dominant station that is making money and gets great ratings, you can afford to have one that isn't necessarily doing as well. Not to mention, their AE's could be packaging spots for both stations. As in, if you buy so many spots on "The Bull", they'll throw you a couple on "The Blaze" and vice versa. It's the norm for sales departments now.

I don't know what is actually going on behind the scenes there, but I'm just going by what is standard in the industry these days.

Re: Discrepancies in East Texas ratings??

Longhorn, Most of us are not trying to tear anybody down personally. i don't know Dru, so I have nothing to say about him from a personal standpoint. I've never worked with the man, so I have nothing to say about him from a professional standpoint. I can only observe what I hear and what I see from a data standpoint. The once mighty KYKX that used to pull down double-digit and high single-digit shares is now basically mired in mediocrity and drives a lot of us crazy, because they used to sound so good.

We're not trying to tear down the business. We're only venting our frustrations at what it has become. I don't pretend to have all the answers. I can only observe and give opinion and that's what I do here. I always try to accentuate the positives when I see them. In the Ark-La-Tex area, I don't see a lot of positives anymore, sadly. I see a few corporations that have homogenized and gutted several great radio stations. KYKX is at the top of that list. I agree that it is more the corporations fault these days, than it is a Programmer that has his hands tied.

The biggest problem that I have with radio is that Corporations don't live by the policy of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"... KOOI. And they seem to be content with stations that are barely treading water... KYKX & "The Bull". It is just mind-boggling when there are so many other avenues you can try.

I'm sure most of the people that post, who have been in the business for a substantial amount of time, feel the same way I do... frustrated. These boards are our outlet for that. If that offends you, I don't know what to tell you. That's basically what the boards are for... observations, news, and commentaries. You know the old saying, people have to have something to bitch about, or they're not happy. I guess this makes most people happy. I know I feel relieved when I can get something that I hear that frustrates me, off my chest. I feel even happier about it when someone else hears the stupidity and agrees with me. I try not to call names, or step on toes, or result to personal attacks, especially with my fellow posters. I used to participate on Music Board like that, and that's why I left.

It's always nice though to hear a differing view. That's what makes the boards great. If we all agreed on everything, I don't think we'd have much to discuss. So don't stay away too long. ;) And, I hope you can see my point-of-view. <P ID="signature">______________
