you know this really sucks to have a second soft ac station but thank god it didnt go spanish cause we all know miami is 50% hispanic , but would still like to have a ROCK station programmed with modern rock and let 1059 do the Classics

Actually, it's the 4th soft AC station... WMIB and WRMA are soft AC.

If thats true then why does the ratings board have WMIB as Spanish Hits and WRMA as Latin Rhythmic???

Maybe the answer is, "because they don't know."

The WRMA calls stand for "Romance" which is spelled the same in English and Spanish and means the same thing. Love songs, soft AC. It is definitely not "Latin" and absolutely not "rhythmic." It is Spanish language soft adult music. Or, simply, AC.

WMIB is a nearly identical to WRMA, but a different owner.

Maybe a quarter of the Spanish language format descriptions are imprecise or wrong.

It seems to really be "official" now.
The website is up and (kind of) running

I think Easy will do just fine in South Florida. It will eat away at the upper demo of Lite. It will be the choice in offices and, bottom line, it will be a money maker for Cox. And isn't that what it's all about in corporate radio? The money?

Another question....will 93.1's former Rock format move to 93.1 HD-2, or will WBGG HD-2 be alone in the market with some form of current rock over the air (even if few can hear it....).

^^^

I was wondering about its HD2 as well (that makes *both* of us HD listeners curious).

A return to Party, especially after relegating it to HD2, didn't seem right. I believe HD2 will remain Party tho'.

Anybody think WBGG will add some more modern-ish rock to their playlist? "Classic" Rock pretty much includes most of the format up until the start of grunge in the early '90's. Why not throw in some of the more popular 90's and early 2000's rock? Nobody else south of Hollywood will be able to pick up a decent rock signal so perhaps CC-Miami can gain an extra listener or two...

Man the formats they changed to on 93.1 has been a train wreck, from classical to Dance to rock and now to Soft AC, hahaha

Could we see something else after the first of the year. Actually this is pretty different. Takes us back to the EZ days. WDUV is making it work, this might just work. At least Cox was bold enough to try something different. It is good to hear songs that haven't been played on South Florida radio in many years.

Agreed. Change of pace from the thump-thump-thump. Can get that anywhere.

I recorded the changeover....first song was (drum roll) "Easy" by the Commodores.

Wouldn't be surprised if they do. Here in Tampa Cox's Classic Rocker 102.5 The Bone recently added quite a few 90's-00's titles to it's playlist (heck grunge is going on 20 years old now...) and saw a surge in ratings, pulling older listeners from Clear Channel's Active Rock WXTB. Some of The Bone's playlist actually includes the older songs in rotation at Cox stablemate Modern Rock 97X (Nirvana, Limp Bizkit, Green Day, Offspring, Pearl Jam, etc).

I wouldn't expect to hear Limp Bizkit on WBGG....but Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters or Red Hot Chili Peppers wouldn't be a stretch.

It might get good ratings but they might not bill that well, that is why classy 92.1 in west palm beach flipped formats

At this point if it bills more than the previous rock & dance formats, and cuts into the top station ratings, then the goal will be achieved.

WRLX (if those are still the calls) is the only station I know that changed formats while the top station in the market TWICE. They landed at number one in the nineties as they switched from Easy Listening to Jammin' Oldies. They reached number one in the monthlies a few days after their switch from Classy to Mia. The demos must have been horrible, but their 12+ numbers were great.

It happened a third time in the early 90s when WEAT swapped Easy 104 (Easy Listening) to Sunny 104.3 (Adult Contemporary). I recall they had an unheard of 16 share when I moved here in 1990, but I'm certain they made more money w2ith Sunny.

I've been listening on line to the station for the past two hours...and its WDUV Part 2. I really believe Soft AC is making a comeback across the country...more in the southeast than anywhere. Think about the stress everyone is under today...its great to have a station that you can chill to. Music that is very familiar...like an old friend.

A station here in Columbia SC flipped to Soft AC Carolina 92.1 its great (sounds like WDUV as well using the same liners etc) I think Easy will do very well...upper demos for sure but will do well. Do look for more flips to the format.

You can bet WLYF is listening too.

So far a better mix than WDUV. Not hearing the train wrecks that WDUV has.

I can almost hear the carts going in circles. The scullys loaded with evergreen/hit parade format. Everything old is new again. What about those time/temp announcements. Larry King at midnight can't be too far away. Now where did I put that Mutual receiver at LOL.

A good description. WAXY was Hitparade for a couple of years in the early '70's but if you were in South Florida the station that would come to mind would be Cox's 97.3 WAIA (now WFLC). A-1-A was automated for awhile but mostly live assist.

I keep expecting to hear..."A-1-A Your Music Way". Too bad the calls are taken.

The question is will Cox stick with it? Whatever they do they need to give it a chance. Even people that don't follow or care about radio can spot a loser when they keep changing format.

So far I like it and that's a bad sign for any station! :D

I listened briefly online and I like it, too. It's refreshing and relaxing as I was listening to songs I have not heard on the radio in years. I have to give Cox Radio a thumbs up.
