Eddie Edwards buys WPYT 660

Radio locator still has the new 103.1 move-in as christian contemporary. Perhaps Eddie could purchase this FM'er?

I don't think it will reach the city, it's moving from Waynesburg and the new site is appears to be the Froggy 94.9 stick up on the mountain above Uniontown. Not the right signal for Urban.

Radio-Locator is wrong about both 660 and 103.1. They also are wrong about 1360, which is listed as "Heaven 1120." They are wrong about many, many other things. In fact, they may be wrong more often than Wikipedia. At least Wikipedia can be corrected by users.

maybe the site should be renamed Radio Dislocator?

Press reports yesterday said Eddie Edwards is planning to start out with 15 employees.
I have to give him credit for having a great deal of entrepreneurial courage...especially
in this economic climate. I doubt many stations that size anymore have five employees,
let alone fifteen.

660 broadcasting news and public affairs still does nothing to answer the burning question as to where the demos that listened to WAMO FM are going to go and if anybody will target that group other than 96.1? Urban AC for 3 hours a night on Q doesn't either.

As before, the answer is that no one is going to chase that audience.

If the urban audience was percieved to be the economic force in Pittsburgh that it is in NY, Philly, DC or Atlanta we wouldn't be having this conversation. But the simple fact is that WAMO (and WJJJ, and 100.7 MixJamz) are all gone because they could not do enough business in this market.

Ratings without revenue equals fire sale.

"But the simple fact is that WAMO (and WJJJ, and 100.7 MixJamz) are all gone because they could not do enough business in this market."
WJJJ, when it was a Smooth Jazz station, actually was billing great business, quarter to quarter. When we sponsored jazz cruises on the Majestic, they sold out. CC pulled the plug because there was a rumor of a jammin’ oldies station comin' to town.
100.7 MixJamz was out billing B94, so whoever owned B at the time, bought WMXP. Changed the format to "K-Garth", then KBear, country formatted WQKB. If you can't beat em', eat em.

just to be clear I was referring to the later incarnations of WJJJ, specifically Jammin' Oldies and the adult R&B that followed.

Jammin' Oldies was intended to be a "colorblind" format and we took great pains to try to make it so. As I have stated before, somebody (not me) made the decision to add Britney Spears and 'N Sync to the playlist, which was The Beginning Of The End Of The Format. Not long after that, nearly everyone was let go and the station became Adult R&B. Then Gene Romano finally got the FM Talk station I suspect he wanted from the beginning. That obviously has been very successful.
