Elvis dropped from WMTX

Well that didn't last long. Nancy still in afternoons. Kristy Knight on morning drive now with 50 minute music hours.

They never gave it time to grow... ugh! It takes ATLEAST a year to build the brand in the market for a new morning show. Not to mention, the station itself isn't up to par. When the show launched in Philly, it too did not do well for awhile! Now, the show has GREAT and consistent numbers in Philly.

This just has to be the worst programming I've ever seen. They move a struggling Nancy to afternoons 6 months ago, give Elvis a go, and now the blow him up? After only 6 months? I never heard promos for the guy either, so the station is just a mess.

I also wonder, MTX is a Clear Channel station.. is the relationship between Premiere and Clear Channel on the rocks? This CAN'T go over well with them.

Going music-intensive in the morning paid huge dividends for 98 Rock. Mix probably saw that they were getting no traction against MJ and Mason with an out-of-town show... OR he was gaining listeners, but they were at MJ's expense. Clear Channel often has a "protect the mothership" mentality when programming clusters in a market, and in this case FLZ is the mothership.

Yes, protect MJ at all costs. When was the last time he talked about quitting on air again?

Ugh... don't remind him. ::) As for WMTX, it should be 'blown up' once and for all and started from the ground up with new imaging/branding. Perhaps resurrect the WSHE letters and attempt a better AC, classic rock, polka, or whatever with a unique identity. But no more MIX, please. Twenty years is long enough between having it on 95.7 and 100.7. ;D

what? people complaining about a syndicated show being canned for a local morning show? isn't that a good thing that its now local?

Wow-------I didn't even know they played him. Guess Buddy Holly is next .Sad

I was thinking the same thing. I think CC actually made a right decision and finally put a local show on mornings. I like Elvis, but I don't think his show fits in Tampa. Though, I think Nancy should've returned to mornings.

You say SYNDICATED like it can't be a good thing. It works on Television. Good is good. Local means nothing anymore, People can get local info anywhere. They want to be entertained. Elvis's show was a good fit for Tampa or any other market with young female listeners. The station is a mess and is too old for his show. That's the station's fault. Elvis' show is more in demo than MJ's on the younger station. 6 months isn't enough for ANYONE to succeed. Local or not.

So what's better? Elvis piped in from New York? Or a voicetracked Kristy Knight talking about recipes and reminding us to log onto the Mix website to find out about local events between tunes?

Elvis worked for Tampa, but I agree, Mix is much too stale for it.

Mix mornings were not doing as well as they wanted, there may have been some corporate pressure to clear Elvis, and maybe they didn't think it all the way through... any increase in numbers on a station has to come from someone else's slice of the pie... maybe they thought he would mostly take listeners from Mason...

Know this is dumb, but they hire back Mike Reives (plus Jo Jo Walker) and do this:

Nancy and Kristi 5-9AM
Shriner---------9-2PM
Mike and Jo Jo----2PM-7PM
Chris Randolph-----7-12
Tesh------overnights.

Couldn't get much worse.

So why did they put Elvis on in the first place if they wanted to "protect the mothership?"

Maybe they were hoping someday to replace the mothership They might have been better served to change the format to better fit the show, not the morning show.

I think strong local personalities like back in the day with Mike Reeves, Larry London, and Bobby Rich could save MIX

Again with the local thing. Local is not important anymore and "Back in the Day" is what is wrong with this station. It isn't 1985 anymore. Technology and information and IPods have changed all of that.
