Elvis dropped from WMTX

I think strong local personalities like back in the day with Mike Reeves, Larry London, and Bobby Rich could save MIX

In the new world of PPM, that seems to be what people DON'T want.

1) What about Q105. They maintain strong personalities and do well in the PPM as I understand it. Maybe people don't want bombastic, ,over-the-top, and edgy personalities who are doing talk shows with little music at all.

Mix 100.7 = A "Kristy" in the morning with at least 50 minutes of music every hour.
Magic 94.9 = A "Kristy" in the morning with at least 50 minutes of music every hour.

As for Elvis, I'm sure research shows he wasn't getting any traction... much like Lex and Terry in the male demos. They're totally going the same route they took with 98 Rock. As for sales, I'm sure Mix is being sold with FLZ in mornings as music on Mix and MJ talk on FLZ.

Brilliant strategy. Now all 100.7 needs to do is start calling themselves "the NEW Mix 100.7"!

I don't understand terrestrial radio. They seem to want either all talk or all music. No room for an entertaining talk/music mix like the Elvis show. I'd rather have an entertaining show from out of town than a local jukebox or talkathon.

In 6 months?!? You can't tell anything in 6 months! The reason MIX gave on their facebook is just ridiculous, too. They said Tampa spoke loud & clear, but now their facebook page is filled with comments wanting Elvis back. They said you can now listen to 50 mins of music in the morning - so why do I need to listen to radio anymore? I can just use my iPod! And finally, they use the twist of "we love Elvis and you can still listen on iheartradio".. so again, why do I need your station AT ALL.

People want to know why radio is having such a hard time, it's because they are trying to go head to head with an iPod - which isn't a fight they should have! Provide interesting content, something an iPod can't do!

FAIL

I know I'm old school, but I prefer music with live jocks, but not the type who interfere with the music or have 15 minutes of skits for one song. When AC stations were a new concept and just starting out as a seperate format from CHR, the one's I heard like the EZ Communication outlets, WTVR before CC, WQSF in Williamsburg, VA, 3WD in Norfolk, and WASH befire CC were playing various forms of "more music", but still employing MOR type jocks in most dayparts with maybe a little faster pace in PM Drive. It took a few years before somebody thought to mess with it and add morning teams. I would like to see AC stations get back to this idea. Now maybe Hot AC is closer to CHR , so comedy shows work there. Beach 104 in North Carolina is a Hot AC that seems to focus on music but still has some personality. The old WGUL was almost soft AC with live jocks. The guy overnights on WUSF is the style I'm referring to. If MIX is going in the direction of music driven stations, but with live jocks who don't interfere with the music, I'd say like "groovey".

Actually, now with PPM and monthly reports, I do believe you can get a good idea on the way things are going in as little as 6 months. Besides, these companies don't simply rely on Arbitron. They do endless market research and can get a good impression by simply by doing call outs and quizzing a certain demographic. Whether that's the case here who knows. It could also be the fact that 100.7 simply doesn't have a year to "see if something works". This station has been lagging for a good 4-6 years and they're probably either all about the bottom line or making trying to make noise by shaking things up. They really can't do any worse against they're primary competition at Cox.

Bingo. Especially if the concern was how he was affecting their other morning show(s).

No, no, no. When you look at the ratings books, the ONLY options it shows are terrestrial radio stations. Not satellite, not internet, and not an iPod. So no, radio is not attempting to go head to head with an iPod. What is hurting certain personalities is going head to head with a simpler, less cluttered OTA radio presentation.

It doesn't matter if radio wins or loses to an iPod or to any other platform. That's not how ad rates are set, or how advertisers pick which station to advertise on. What matters is if one station loses to another.

Keep it simple, keep it short, keep it moving, and keep it interesting. Howard Hoffman said it best. NINE!
