Emmis Says Goodbye To Hot 93.3

The last song they played as Hot 93.3 was Mims "This Is Why I'm Hot". The first song they played as 93.3 KGSR was from INXS. Well that was a wrap for Hot. 6 years long, 6 years strong. That was about how long The Beat 104.3 lasted the first time. (June 1998 - July 2004). Sad.

The first 93.3 KGSR song was actually "What's the Frequency Kenneth" by REM (appropriate, n'est ce pas?). Here's hoping the move to the stronger signal doesn't water down everything that made 107.1 great; comparing today's playlist to the one from two weeks ago, it looks a little less adventurous to me (don't remember ever hearing INXS on 107.1, for instance).

When did hot go off the air offically and the website taken down??
Hot 93.3 went off at 4:57pm after the "This Is Why I'm Hot" by Mims was done. The website was taken down probably either yesterday or early this morning, but if you go onto www.hot933.fm, you will see a Thank You letter posted for all the Hot 93.3 listeners to look at.

Is the ''Local 107'' Hybrid Digital channel still on 107.1-2 or did it move over to 93.3?
]

They fliped the HD-2 channel from 107.1 to 93.3, the 107.1 has no HD side channel on but is broadcasting in HD.

I drove 93.3 back in the 70's when it was still licensed to Killeen. PM drive. I had left the station in 1980 to go back to TV but spent 5 years at the old KIXS. Those days most everyone had FM converters driving the AM in the car...93.3 would wipe out KLBJ almost to Florence...how times change.

Then entire situation angers me.. I'm 18 and I live in San Antonio now, my mother is military and when I lived on Fort Hood I remember listening to Hot all the time ... That station was what inspired me to get into radio, after I moved to San Antonio there were some changes that I didn't like such as their new voice overs and their programming was little different but I still had a lot of respect for how Hot represented Hip Hop in the Austin community.. I saw them "beat" their competition on several occasions.. It bothers me so much that a company like Emmis that has the reputation and resources to really get into the community would abandon the Hip Hop community of Austin and Central Texas.. Hot's ratings were at the top in Killeen and Waco and they were doing real good in Austin... I think that Texas radio is mediocre and all the stations in San Antonio and Austin are some of there worst... And the websites of the Top40 and Rhythmic stations out here are insulting look at the Beats, (in San Antonio and Austin) and Kiss and Mix they are horrible they all look watered down at least Hot took enough pride to bring professionalism into this pretty young audience based genre... And as far as the new Beat in Austin I see it going nowhere at all, I wish that Austin had an Urban station like the hip hop stations on the East coast at lease they play the new songs over and over instead the old ones (with Ryan Secrest ) DONE WITH RADIO IN AUSTIN (BEEN DONE WITH SAN ANTONIO)

Maybe the translation needed to be from red to green. ;D

BMP was releasing employees, including most of their good sales people before they dumped the Spanish Language Formats. I don't know how you make sales without good sales people, but maybe a plan to change formats was in the works for a while.

Today, I heard that Univision has reassigned their GM from Austin to another position within Univision, but outside of Austin. That doesn't sound like a promotion to me. Nevertheless, the latest Arbitron numbers took KLQB to #2 in the market 12+, so what's up with the change of local management.

I have NEVER seen anything so stupid as to scrap a format that was so high in the ratings and let a robot take the format over. Absolutely incredible.

I've heard two stories about the change coming to 93.3

1. They're going to go with a Regional Mexican Music Format

2. They're going to move KLBJ AM to protect that investment.

I have yet to hear any of the stunting over the air that is being reported.

I figured they were going to fill in a current format hole with the recent addition of News Talk on FM and the dropping of two Spanish stations. This was the reaction of 93.3 dropping Hip Hop.

With these two choices, I couldn't see them programing a Regional Mexican Music Format on 93.3 with that huge coverage area on the
frequiency. If they would have let it known that 107.1 was going to move to 93.3 and 107.1 was going to have a new format, I would have
gone with Regional Mexican Music Format for 107.1 FM. Why?? Pretty easy now..

#1. 107.1 dose a great job of penetrating the East side of Austin, where the majority of Hispanics live.
#2. I would have dismissed them to go News Talk on that frequiency because it covers the Eastern part of the Austin Coverage area well,
an area where 590 AM already dose a excellent job of. #3. Last but not least is the current ratings for the Regional Mexican Music Format
seem to be exploding. Combining the last 12+ ratings for both station and you get a 9.0, which would now take any station to the top
if it was the lone Regional Mexican Music Format on a good FM frequency in Austin. So, simulcasting KLBJ on 107.1 would not have made
scene to me but would have on 93.3. I guessed a simulcast of KLBJ on 93.3 but I was thrown a Monkey Wrench.
