I've heard two stories about the change coming to 93.3
1. They're going to go with a Regional Mexican Music Format
2. They're going to move KLBJ AM to protect that investment.
I have yet to hear any of the stunting over the air that is being reported.
I figured they were going to fill in a current format hole with the recent addition of News Talk on FM and the dropping of two Spanish stations. This was the reaction of 93.3 dropping Hip Hop.
With these two choices, I couldn't see them programing a Regional Mexican Music Format on 93.3 with that huge coverage area on the
frequiency. If they would have let it known that 107.1 was going to move to 93.3 and 107.1 was going to have a new format, I would have
gone with Regional Mexican Music Format for 107.1 FM. Why?? Pretty easy now..
#1. 107.1 dose a great job of penetrating the East side of Austin, where the majority of Hispanics live.
#2. I would have dismissed them to go News Talk on that frequiency because it covers the Eastern part of the Austin Coverage area well,
an area where 590 AM already dose a excellent job of. #3. Last but not least is the current ratings for the Regional Mexican Music Format
seem to be exploding. Combining the last 12+ ratings for both station and you get a 9.0, which would now take any station to the top
if it was the lone Regional Mexican Music Format on a good FM frequency in Austin. So, simulcasting KLBJ on 107.1 would not have made
scene to me but would have on 93.3. I guessed a simulcast of KLBJ on 93.3 but I was thrown a Monkey Wrench.
