Emmis Terre Haute

Word on the grapevine is that Emmis will LMA the Crossroads diasters in Terre Haute. Maybe with proper management and supervision the stations can grow

Emmis cannot LMA all the Crossroads stations due to federal regulations. Cash strapped Emmis is selling stations, not buying any these days. They just sold 3 FM's two in Chicago, one in New Yourk City, and Emmis is renting out the LA station. Crossroads just needs to bite the bullet and sell out.

I think the FCC is a non-factor. After all, this is the same market that has 3 TV stations, with 2 run by the same company.
They will never know! ::)

Crossroads has 3 FM and 2 AM

FM: WBOW, WSDM, WAXI
AM: WBOW, WSDX

I would hope that the FCC wouldn't allow operating 7 of the 11-or-so Terre Haute market stations ... but it wouldn't surprise me.

I just don't see the Crossroads stations adding to the cash flow of the 2 Emmis FM stations.

The rules do not permit one owner to have 5 FM'S in that market.

In fact it surprises me Emmis keeps the two it owns, small potatoes for the mid to major market group.

Ah...but WAXI is not in the Terre Haute market, at least as Arbitron defines it (and therefore the FCC as well). Parke County is in the TSA, but not the metro.

(For the record: Clay, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo counties in Indiana, Clark and Edgar in Illinois.)

Subtract WAXI and WSDX from the equation, and you've got a five-station cluster. The biggest concern there may well be the informal 40% revenue cap that the Justice Department imposes - it's not hard to imagine that WTHI-FM pulls a significant chunk of that all by itself.

WAXI is definitely a rimshot, but it has historically been rated higher than a certain 50kW FM licensed to Terre Haute.

We can bet that would never happen again under any owner/operator not called Crossroads.

Lack of supervision, lack of format consistency, lack of management control has led these stations to their current state. LMA to Emmis or anybody is not a solution!

I have been on the road a lot lately, so I have had a lot of time to listen, and honestly I really like the music mix on WAXI. The fact there is no midday or evening jock is kind of disappointing (but given their financial state I understand) and the imaging is a little bland, but overall it sounds better than anything they have had on the stick in the last 5-6 years.

The music on WBOW is good for the most part, I personally would play a little more new music, and sometimes the transitions between the songs are a little odd, but those are mainly minor things. Presentation wise, mornings and middays sound pretty good, but afternoons are atrocious. Who hired that guy, and who does he have pictures of to keep his job??

Really if some pretty minor and easy tweaks could be made, and some money put in for things like more on-air talent and imaging, the stations can be respectable.

Ain't gonna happen! From what I hear there is no money to invest in the future of these stations. WBOW and WAXI could be players in the market for little or no cash investment. Crossroads has very little management that actually understands radio and certainly not much experience selling radio.

Heard an interesting rumor regarding Emmis. I was told that they are not LMA'ing the Crossroads cluster, but I hear that Midwest Communications is close to acquiring Hi-99 and WTHI.

Anyone else heard heard something similar? I have a hard time imagining Emmis wanting to part with it, but Duke Wright way overpaid to get the 98.5 stick as well.

Also, if this were to happen, I think Midwest would have to part with at least one FM.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm RO77 you do realize Hi-99 and WTHI are the same station. Hi-99's calls are WTHI. might you be thinking of WWVR as the other station along with WTHI (Hi-99)

Whatever he is referring to is a mute point. Emmis is NOT selling the stations in Terre Haute. The station (s) have been a huge cash cow for Emmis for years and there is no reason for that to change.

Yes, Mike I made a typo. I did mean WWVR.

And nuff, I agree too. Hard to imagine dumping something that only makes money. Just passing along what I heard.

I heard the Emmis will not be LMAing Crossroads period.
From what I hear Emmis is trying to get WBOW 1300.

Speaking of Crossroads, Supposedly 1130 is going to come back.

1130 was on the air the last time I drove I-70 -- a simulcast of the Crock, err, ESPN Sports Radio 92.7.

What use would Emmis have for a low power AM facility like WBOW?

I heard that Midwest has made an offer to Emmis to part ways with WTHI and WWVR. I don't know if that is true, only a rumor.

MidWest would keep WTHI, WWVR and WMGI. They would have to spin off the Paris cluster along with WWSY in order to keep it under cap.

MidWest Family has sniffed around the market and looked at WBOW and that cluster so maybe if MidWest cherry picked the Emmis cluster, MidWest Family could look at what is left with Paris and WWSY.

And where do you guys come up with this "stuff"? Emmis selling there money cows to Midwest? Now tell me that pigs and fly and we're off to the races.

nuff, you began it all with the rumor Emmis was signing an LMA to takeover Crossroads. You still hearing that?
