End Near For Evolution On 101.7?

Never thought I ever would be rooting for CC of all companies. But good for you! Keep it going.
Yeah, my favorite (or least objectionable, anyway) local commercial FM station, and (from what I've heard of Bloomberg so far) my favorite commercial AM station too. Would have never expected that eight months ago!

I wonder whether Evolution is part of Bob Pittman's 'crafty new business' (I'm not subscribed to Inside Music Media, so can't see the details):

Buying up translators and limited-signal FMs might be CC's way of getting listeners for the formats its Format Lab worked on for deployment on HD Radio, which, as we all know, has never come close to significant numbers of radio owners. If Evolution can attract enough advertisers with its very young-skewing format, then maybe other niche formats will follow, at least in markets with enough space on the dial for CC to put them on the air. Think '80s/'90s country in country-friendly markets, urban AC in markets with a big black middle class, etc.

ratings are out right now www.******************

Frank-FM in New Hampshire just eclipsed them in the Boston ratings.

Turn off the strobe, the party will soon be over...

Again, if all we armchair PDs have to go on is virtually meaningless 12+ numbers, we have no idea what CC's beancounters think of Evolution's performance. Could be those 219,600 listeners all fall into a demo advertisers crave but can't reach with any other station in the market, you know. Besides, with the shrinking number of formats that advertisers will buy, what possible young-skewing and/or female-skewing music format remains to be filled in the Boston market?

remember its a limited signal so cc might be happy with it look how long comedy was on 1200?? as long as they are keeping 101.7 away from other companies I don't think cc cares about there ratings.

It would be nice to see how WEDX is doing with males again this month.

I see they are adding two local DJ shows into the mix on weekends.
This will only make them stronger with males.

I think all they need to do is get away from the repetition.

These message boards are really funny. This is why no one takes them too seriously.
You get a dozen people cheering for a EDM station to sign on the air, and then one does. Now you have a dozen people rooting for its failure.

I'm still cheering for them! Quite frankly it's the only local station I find interesting anymore. Also I agree with you about message boards. The thread about Hot's change in call letters is hilarious. ::)

It's really just a bunch of armchair PD's in here LOL

Given your track record, Joseph, I guess your proclamation means that it will certainly be curtains for Evolution at some point!

Too bad WEDX is changing to talk any second and he wont be on anymore ;)

But wouldn't putting Jeff Katz on FM be like putting lipstick on the pig?

Even if 101.7's rating stay in the dumper, they can still serve --- and sell--- their niche. As far as I know most if not all of 101.7's current programming is bird-fed so they have little to no overhead. Put talk on the freqency and you return to a format that has already failed once... and now once again you need to pay a hefty salary to at least one local talk host to anchor your morning drive. With ratings in the dumper. AM, FM, it won't make ANY difference. FM Talk already failed miserably in this market. What possible reason would Clear Channel have to try it again?
