End Of Kevin & Bean

How about "Kevin & Team"? It almost rhymes with "Kevin & Bean".
Gene "Bean" Baxter has said on the air he thinks he'll soon be mostly forgotten as life and radio move on. I don't think that's fully true. He's made an indelible mark on the LARadio scene. Certainly, as long as Kevin Ryder remains in AM Drive on KROQ there will be awareness of what used to be over those terrific 30 years.

That wouldn't surprise me. When Bean announced he was leaving, I got the impression that Kevin wanted to stay on.

However reading the linked article in All Access, it sounds like they're both leaving.

Don's laradio.com seemed to indicate that Kevin was staying on as well. Guess we will all know for sure soon enough. I was always amazed that they made the show sound so seamless even though Bean was in Washington for most of these last years.

Kevin is indeed staying on, along with Allie MacKay, Jensen Karp and the "B-Team," including Dave Sanchez, Omar Khan and Johnny "Beer Mug" Kantrowe.

man, this is a big shocking story for Radio in general. i wonder if Bean was considering retiring, hence the end of that show after 30 years on LA Radio. at least they are leaving before it could get really sad to listening to them on a daily basis unlike in Dallas with The Russ Martin show on KEGL 97.1 The Eagle, in the last 2 years, when Russ is on with the rest of his crew, it's sad to listen to him as clearly his heart isn't in it anymore. and when he's not on, the rest of the show's crew carries on without him.

What a show today! Included so many elements that made radio great in the 20th Century, which have dwindled over the last couple decades. From bits to comraderie to free flowing topics to escapades to surprises to some of the show's marquee cast, JIMMY KIMMEL and ADAM CAROLLA in-studio, to soap opera narratives that listeners are hooked into hearing the next chapter (Poorman adding a chapter to a 25-year narrative, Ralph back and sharing the backstory to his Jerry Lewis call prank), it was a terrific broadcast, worth hearing on the K&B podcast if you missed it live on 106.7.

I know Gene "Bean" is on this board sometimes. Callers did mention on air today a hope for a future podcast. I echo that hope. Question - was hosting the show from the UK ever considered? 5:30a here is 1:30p in the UK, which is so convenient. And think of all the guests you could have had with ease by the show having a UK outpost for local Brit musicians to come into the studio there. Los Angeles is the ultimate for global musicians. An LA morning show partially based in London would be highly valued.

Some fun facts I learned during this broadcast/other cool things:

-- Ryan Seacrest interviewed Bean on his morning show
-- Y107 had offered Jimmy Kimmel a contract to host a morning show with Chris Hardwick in the '90s
-- Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carolla pitched a radio show on KLSX in the '90s, but were shot down, and developed "The Man Show" as a result
-- Poorman was paid $183K per year when he was with the station
