Haven't heard that one in a while!

But, in case you were really asking: Dance Factory, a brokered 8PM to 6AM show on Nine (ironically, the same two frequencies with the addition of 99.9) is similar to Energy's product.

And if you live close to downtown and own an HD radio, WBBM-HD2 offers a dance jukebox with no production whatsoever.

From what the youngins tell me, neither offers the same "look and feel". Don't hold your breath for a reincarnation, as all the little guys have been forced out in the Windy City. From the Big Three: Look for more stations to flip AC, and go all-Christmas in August.

ipartyradio.com

Run by Entercom Milwaukee's Will Calder, ex-Energy employee. Also on the station are mixes by ex-Energy employee Pat Clark. Check it out...it's pretty great internet radio for the old Energy fans.

I saw Pat Clark try out for the show Ghost Hunters on Sci Fi this past halloween. I used to work with him
when he was at NextMedia's 100.7 The Bus. I almost didn't recognize him on the Ghost Hunters show.

Given its lack of financial success the first time around, don;t hold your breath.

I must say that brings back the memories.... Ahh to be in chicago where radio was once great. Remember when 92.7 and 92.5 was kiss fm before the clear channel juggernaut took over? THAT was a kick ass station w/ a great staff!

I totally agree with you KISS was a much better sounding station when it was run by Big City Radio on 92.7 and 92.5 then it is now
on 103.5. It was a true top 40 station. I also miss The Eighties Channel WXXY they were running on 103.1.

NICE! the 80's channel, a buddy of mine programmed that. It was literally the BEST of the 80's. i loved that station. i miss good radio.... living in indiana is killing me slowly

You're not missing much here. The BCR properties in CHI were not bad, all executed properly. 80s is still (if not even more, now) a viable format, if done right.

But no one else has.

With the new dance station "Pulse" in NYC maybe some fringe station in Chicago will flip to dance.
The east coast has a few new dance stations as of late.
Maybe dance is starting to move into mainstream again....?

I doubt that very much....And even if it does resurface, it will die a slow death, AGAIN!

Not that I really care if a damned techno station ever comes back, but remember that BCR didn't "flip" Energy because they were losing money on it. They "sold" the entire operation to SBS because they were arsehole deep in debt from buying so many stations. I believe they sold the cluster for $22 million, not a small chunk of change for a few rimshot signals.

Keep in mind as well, that the old trimulcast showed up higher in the Arb's than Nine is now. Without the 50KW blowtorch down south. Food for thought.

Is this your preference, opinion or do you have stats to back that up?
Thanks for your informative imput.

Was Energy a techno station? I thought it was dance.

Eh, what's the difference? ;)

Listed technically, it was a dance-leaning CHR. Format semantics aside, I was only trying to illustrate that while most members are quick to jump on the case of anyone who ever suggests a dance format (regardless of if they are serious or not), we have to remember that Energy wasn't what sunk the ship. And, for what it's worth, probably had more listeners than the current trainwreck at that spot on the dial.

It's a niche format, yes, but that doesn't make it unprofitable. This is Chicago not Nashville.

From a business perspective, it makes perfect sense to me. The listeners are young, club-going types. Trendsetters with a load of disposable income. Have you ever seen the parking lot at a trendy club? Bimmers and Mercedes. But no station programmed for these types.

And the parking lot at the Five-Star Fiesta Marketplace? Yet we have dozens of stations programmed for that demo.

I bet if someone gave the former group a reason to turn off their iPod or shut down the internet stream for a couple minutes, they just might have a winner!

I think you make the best point of all in your last sentence to paraphrase "GIVE THEM A REASON TO TURN OFF THEIR IPOD OR
SHUT DOWN THE INTERNET STREAM FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES,THEY JUST MIGHT HAVE A WINNER! I could not agree with you more,
if there is nothing on the radio for certain demos to listen too, they will not waste their time to turn the radio on. "If you build it they
will come" You are also right about the ratings aspect. When they were KISS or ENERGY on 92.7/5 they did relatively well in the ratings
despite their signal disadvantage in the city proper, much better than the current station with much better coverage in the south on 99.9.
I have watched the rating's for 9FM and it seems that the only real numbers they are pulling in are for Dance Factory. I'm not saying
I'm a big dance fan I'm more of rock guy,but at this point I don't think 9FM would have much to lose going dance 24/7.
