I totally agree with you KISS was a much better sounding station when it was run by Big City Radio on 92.7 and 92.5 then it is nowwradiochick said:I must say that brings back the memories.... Ahh to be in chicago where radio was once great. Remember when 92.7 and 92.5 was kiss fm before the clear channel juggernaut took over? THAT was a kick ass station w/ a great staff!

Not that I really care if a damned techno station ever comes back, but remember that BCR didn't "flip" Energy because they were losing money on it. They "sold" the entire operation to SBS because they were arsehole deep in debt from buying so many stations. I believe they sold the cluster for $22 million, not a small chunk of change for a few rimshot signals.
Keep in mind as well, that the old trimulcast showed up higher in the Arb's than Nine is now. Without the 50KW blowtorch down south. Food for thought.

Was Energy a techno station? I thought it was dance.
I think you make the best point of all in your last sentence to paraphrase "GIVE THEM A REASON TO TURN OFF THEIR IPOD ORclone said:Jeffrey said:clone said:confusedandmad2 said:I doubt that very much....And even if it does resurface, it will die a slow death, AGAIN!

Eh, what's the difference?
Listed technically, it was a dance-leaning CHR. Format semantics aside, I was only trying to illustrate that while most members are quick to jump on the case of anyone who ever suggests a dance format (regardless of if they are serious or not), we have to remember that Energy wasn't what sunk the ship. And, for what it's worth, probably had more listeners than the current trainwreck at that spot on the dial.
It's a niche format, yes, but that doesn't make it unprofitable. This is Chicago not Nashville.
From a business perspective, it makes perfect sense to me. The listeners are young, club-going types. Trendsetters with a load of disposable income. Have you ever seen the parking lot at a trendy club? Bimmers and Mercedes. But no station programmed for these types.
And the parking lot at the Five-Star Fiesta Marketplace? Yet we have dozens of stations programmed for that demo.
I bet if someone gave the former group a reason to turn off their iPod or shut down the internet stream for a couple minutes, they just might have a winner!
