Energy 92.7&5

With the new dance station "Pulse" in NYC maybe some fringe station in Chicago will flip to dance.
The east coast has a few new dance stations as of late.
Maybe dance is starting to move into mainstream again....?

"Pulse" is dead before it even started. First, it's on a frequency that not all radios can get. Second, because it's in the TV band, it won't be listed in Arbitron. Third, it's in THE FREAKING TV BAND! I know LPTV stations are exempt from the February 2009 shutoff, but they will still eventually have to go away. So they are already slated for a short life even if they do make it.

Rumor has it that they might try to purchase 103.9 WFAS-FM which is awaiting FCC approval to move their transmitter from Westchester County to the WFUV transmitter in the Bronx.....WFAS-FM has already changed their COL from White Plains to Bronxville......Cumulus currently owns WFAS-FM but is looking to sell the station since they do not own any stations in NYC.....WFAS-FM will still be a Class A station but "Pulse" will be better off on 103.9 then 87.7.

Yeah...don't hold your breath for Energy to come back to Chicago! There is a rhythmic/gay station programmed by Energy's former Music Director, Harry Legg and it's a Clear Channel thing - believe it or not! It's on Kiss' HD-2. If you are one of the few people with an HD Radio - check it out. Otherwise it streams at www.prideradiousa.com

You are also right about the ratings aspect. When they were KISS or ENERGY on 92.7/5 they did relatively well in the ratings
despite their signal disadvantage in the city proper,

But they lost money. Nobody is going to recreate or emulate a money losing station, particularly during a time when the economy and the radio industry are having problems.

From a business perspective, it makes perfect sense to me. The listeners are young, club-going types. Trendsetters with a load of disposable income. Have you ever seen the parking lot at a trendy club? Bimmers and Mercedes. But no station programmed for these types.

It was already proven that there are not enough of "these types" and definitely not enough for stations to be profitable serving them.

And the parking lot at the Five-Star Fiesta Marketplace? Yet we have dozens of stations programmed for that demo.

Hispanic is not a "demo" but an Ethnic or cultural group.

No, you have 5 FMs (two in simulcast) and one AM and some brokered stuff... for 1.4 million Hispanics over 12 years of age. By the way, Lexus just named an Hispanic ad agency, saying Hispanics were their biggest growth market.

Proven? They weren't really around long enough to determine profitability when you consider the fact that they were owned by a group who didn't stop buying radio stations and building fancy studios on Michigan Avenue long enough to generate any income from them. That is, until the creditors showed up and demanded some. There are other theories, but let's stick with the facts.

The Chicago BCR properties were probably the only ones that really brought in any money.

I don't doubt that they did. Why would Lexus name a Hispanic ad agency, however, unless Latinos are an underserved demo?
