Energy AZ 2002-2008

A word about translators: I am not going to say that this is the case in Phoenix since I have no personal knowledge of this having happened but in many markets translators are known to have been operated well above licensed power. If a 10 watt translator happens to have been equipped with a higher power transmitter--say a 30 watt tranamitter and a two bay antenna and is operated at 30 watts the signal will be somewhat better than at 10 watts...lets say that the translator licensee built the facility to be capable of operating with 100 watts and thinking that he would never be caught powered it up to have 100 watts of operating power (100w ERP). You would be heard all over the central corridor and well into the East and West sections of the Valey. I can assure you that when "Mr. Enforcement" drops by with a one time warning that the translator licensee backs his power down to the authorized power and all of a suddent folks are wondering why the translator has all the coverage of a ToysRus radio transmitter. Not saying that this happened with 92.7 but it has happened in many markets.

Maxmium, that is very possible.. good thoughts!

Also I wonder what there going to do with the 92.7 translator.
Can I have it?
Would be fun to take a desktop pc up there to the facilty on south mountain and program it as a really freaky eclectic Dance/alterantive electro-break beat freaky industrial revolutianary sounding station.
But I really don't think phoenix or anywhere is really ready for radio like that yet.
hehehe ;D

It would be against the law to do that!

Translators are NOT allowed to originate ANY local programming or content except for a 60 second commercial message once per hour. The translator can do nothing other then rebroadcast the originating station.

(That 60 second commercial is supposed to help pay for the translator, as it isn't owned by Sierra Broadcasting and they can't help pay for it... but some translators never run that 60 second spot anyways)

yes!

and yes. ..phoenix is so ready for a format like this; judging by the massive turnouts to downtown after parties. ..and i'd bet, less than 5% of the after party crowd listens to energy 92.7 ..or listen to the radio for that matter.

Looks like the stunting has started today as there are new liners stating Energy as the last dance station and the transmission will end soon. I also heard there will be a retrospective type shows on thursday and friday this week. I do commend Beau Duran for how he is handling the format flip. Instead of not saying anything to us, he is giving us what the energy fan wants. I sure hope some of the previous djs/mixers show up on thursday and friday for the energy sendoff.

I don't see them doing Urban AC there though. Mega 104.3 already tried that format, and they still spin a lot of songs that would be heard on a station with that format. It would only make sense that this ownership group would give them time to sign off properly, after all they stuck with the Dance format for all this time, serving a loyal group of listeners.

The Urban Adult format as presented on stations such as WCFB, Daytona Beach-Orlando, WHUR, Washington, DC, WGPR, Detroit, KJLH, Los Angeles or KBLX, San Francisco among others in no way is reflected in the programming style of 104.3 in Phoenix... If they were to air Tom Joyner-Monique-Wendy Williams-Michael Baisden-and The Sweat Hotel the presentation and commonality of music would be minimum. Mega is as much Adult Urban as Movin is Adult Urban. The question should be if there is enough of a potential audience in the PHX market for a station programming Urban Adult.
