Engineering for WFNX/WPHX

FNX wouldn't sell it? Why keep it? I'm not being snarky, I'm being serious. I don't know what they'd want with a 1kW A.M.er. Any thoughts?

do what they were doing with it.....put it on the bird, have a salesperson or 2 sell it locally and thats it. I doubt its coming back or being sold....it's a stand alone AM in the 21st century, it's not going to make it on its own, regardless of who owns it, WEEI wouldn't want it not only is it a 1kw, it's only 234 watts at night. DOA.

Hi I am the Engineer for WPHX AM and FM in Maine. I agree it is a shame the station is off the air. I am ready and have been ready for sometime to replace the obsolete transmitter. We have received quotes and are working on getting it back on the air at Full power soon.

Gee, Bob, I hate it when some one calls an MW-1 "obsolete". But then I was just a pup when they first came out. Got so I didn't need "no stinkin' manual" to install them.

I also remember when the MW1 was cutting edge state of the art. I saw my first one in 1976 at WESX radio in Salem Mass. when I was still in high school. I still have one working at WTVL Waterville 1490. It is in need of work, but not as bad as WPHX AM. You just can't get decent Mosfets for the PA's and everything needs to be balanced and matched to assure it will keep on working.

you know whats funny to me? i cant find any mention of 1220 on any Phoenix Media website... are they ashamed? ;D ;D ;D

I think they put out a press release a few years ago when 1220 flipped from the satellite-delivered talk format it was running (and had been running pre-WPHX as WSME) to ESPN, but that's the only reference I'd ever seen in the 11 years Phoenix has owned the station.

I hate to see anything not working, but one less ESPN on the dial is a good thing.
Rather hear 60 hz hum, myself.
Surely there's another ESPN choice available.
Mosfets die for the silliest reasons, and having them anywhere near a circuit that sticks way up in the air is asking for trouble.
To hear that replacement Mosfets are not dependable is well, so modern. :p
Who needs reliability anymore?

A client of mine has an MW-1 that he wants to get rid of. It was acquired as a backup by a previous owner, who intended to retune it to the station's frequency but never got around to it.
