English music on 105.3

Back to the original topic, I just heard 105.3 is playing MP3 files off an old cell phone while waiting for someone to lease it. The person must also lease an HD signal for it to rebroadcast. I'm not sure if the new owners are looking just for a paycheck and don't want to run the station themselves, or what is going on.
I'm also not sure how long these cell-phone provided MP3 files will last.

Honestly, I'm not surprised one bit. Has anyone figured out what parent station is feeding 105.3?
 
A translator must repeat another broadcast signal (and HD, another FM or an AM station) and cannot originate programming. If the music originates from an HD signal that's fine. If it originates programming, then there's a problem.

The cell phone is likely plugged directly into the transmitter. I haven't been able to find any HD subchannel carrying the same programming.

And where did you hear that? you repatedly post here and have some interesting comments or thoughts and sometimes are right and sometimes way off. whats your source?

What about if they're in between lease agreements and this is just a filler? I have a feeling this is the case, and the translator will start broadcasting another signal soon. Heck, maybe the FCC is onto them anyways, given the situation with the 96.9 Boerne translator.
 
No matter what the situation, it is a translator. If you don't have a station to translate, you are off the air, period. Anything else like filling with music until getting a lease is illegal.
 
Illegal or not it's my understanding the thing is still operational. I'd call the cops and report it, LOL.

The cops, of course, have no jurisdiction. But reporting it to the FCC is a possibility if you believe it is illegal.
 
I heard a few years ago, that a translator in San Antonio on 102.3 was running 1.5 KW or more for their power... If 105.3 is running 1000 watts I wouldn't be surprised.

That wouldn't surprise me. I remember seeing an email thread saying something to the effect of it running at 2KW, but I'm sure that has changed at this point.

The station is still coming in like a flamethrower here in South Montgomery County... Haven't seen any sign of KTWL lately.

They hit the silent button on streaming a few years ago...but with all the obstacles facing them (as mentioned on this thread) COVID who knows if they are still on air terrestrially...

As for the Houston translator, this was posted on RadioInsight yesterday:

"Hector Guevara’s Centro Cristiano de Vida Eterna requested dismissal of the transfer of 105.3 K287BQ Houston to Sara’s Guevara’s Hope Franco Organization Incorporation as part of a divorce settlement. The applicant states that K287BQ was inadvertently included in the filing for what should have only been 91.5 K218EJ Houston."
 
K287BQ is now running Radio Vida, so a simulcast with 1480 and its 94.9 translator, as well as 92.5. This could be an audio routing mistake, but we’ll see if it lasts.

Could be so it's actually rebroadcasting a licensed facility rather than illegally originating programming. Spanish gospel music is blasting away and still drowning out any sign of KTWL here in South Montgomery County.
 
Maybe is a wake up call to 99.5 K258DA and K258BZ 99.5 Radio Radio Dabang not rebroadcasting legally on KTBZ FM. K283CH 104.5 Fm La Caliente is not rebroadcasting KQBT FM HD.
K231CN-FM 94.1 not on KODA HD. K273AL 102.5 fm not rebroadcasting KJOZ .
