I was told by someone in the know it went this way.
1.) Entercom/CBS owned too many stations in Boston...including two sports stations.
2.) Beasley CEO/President wanted to get into the sports game because she heard there was a lot of (sports) money out there that they were not getting a shot at. She makes a pitch to Entercom/CBS
3.) Entercom decides to spinoff Sports Hub, instead of WEEI....for unknown reasons....in a station swap.
4.) Beasley offers to swap every station in the cluster....and Entercom responds by saying "The only way were giving you the Sports Hub ($$$) is if you give us Magic ($$$) in return"..because they are the best biller, and additional cash.
Entercom never had any interest in attaining any of the Beasley stations for the Sports Hub.
