Entercom to Buy KUFX/ San Jose from Aloha Trust

Theory, KBWF moves to 98.5, thus freeing up 95.7 to take on another format. With the exit of Channel 92.3 in the not to distant future, and the success of Radio 94.7 in Sacto, could we see Radio 95.7? This would force KITS to focus a bit more, and with their football coverage obligations, a second full market Alternative could grab a nice chunk from KITS of those people who don't want football.

Because why would they simulcast a smaller radio market on a big radio market station

What Entercom should have done was to put the Fox on 95.7, to match up with KJFX 95.7 in Fresno, then make 98.5 an Active/AOR format to match up with KRXQ, then eliminate the Country format and make 102.1 a Gen-X format or a CHR format.

Why don't Entercom make 102.1 all 80's and 90's music format? and 95.7 (with low rating) will change it to Sac 98.5 rock. We already have a tons of classic rock stations on SF air wave right now. After all, 103.7 The Band will have to compete with 102.1 or format change.

This is some kind of radio format war??? like 40 stations playing two type of music rock or rap?

Do we really need 3 rock stations in San Francisco Bay?

Also does 102.1 needs 98.5 simulcast? 102.1 can be hear ok in the South Bay, just look at the San Jose PPM. What a waste of signal.
Who Knows? This might be temporary? It may not. They may simulcast it for awhile then create something new for 98.5? I remember when Threshold Broadcasting bought KLOC-920 back in 2001, 920 simulcasted KVIN-1390 for one year before flip flopping formats & call letters.

I would also wonder if this is a temporary move. Simulcasting on two Class B's within 55 miles of each other seems like overkill...there is A LOT of signal overlap there. KFOG's "translator", KFFG is only a Class A, which is appropriate as a secondary signal.

This will give Entercom & K-Fox effectively the Bay Area's greatest FM signal coverage, considering the several translators KUFX already has (Santa Cruz, Morgan Hill, Pleasanton) plus the 2 Class B mains. I fail to see how an average classic rock station would be worthy of so many facilities, unless Entercom has big plans for this format.

Or as Greg Kihn said on the show this morning, " You can now listen to us from Santa Cruz to Santa Rosa"

Will CBS be willing to SPEND the money to promote The Band and "fight" KFOX? From the various postings on this board is seems unlikely.

Let me correct you, The Band 103.7 KKSF is owned by Clear Channel Communications. Is like kick in the butt for CC for not simulcast 98.5-103.7.
Another question is will CC sell more radio stations in SF market. At some point CC want to own all of the radio station in SF market. Now What?

CBS is going to spend money to promote The Band ... which is owned by Clear Channel?

My Posting should have read:

For some reason I had CBS in my mind.

The answer is a strong NO, CBS WILL NOT spend any money whatsoever to promote the Band.

I doubt Clear Channel will either - except for a few anemic billboards.

The promotion of radio stations seems to be dead in the water. CBS and Clear Channel have a virtual duopoly on outdoor advertising in the Bay Area, yet you rarely see a billboard for any of their radio stations anymore.

If this was 5 years ago, CBS would be pushing "The new Now 99.7" all over billboards, on the sides of buses, and TV commercials - at least on their O&O stations (KPIX, KBCW) - but not anymore.

Has there ever been a market where there was 2 classic rock stations?

Fresno has 2 but one, KKBZ 105.1, leans more towards Heavy Metal 80s, 90s, and some 00s.

3 is overkill expecially that huge overlap from Brisbane to Santa Clara and most of the East Bay that 98.5 and 102.1 The Fox has now. How many stations do you need to hear "Layla" 3 times a day.

yeah, you can hear all your classic rock, but can't hear pop songs from the 60's, 70's. 80's and 90's without having to deal with music from today
