Eric and Jimmy Podcast 3

That podcast sound great. Eric is getting better at being the point already. fThis show would be great to hear on the air every morning, no doubt about it.

As a hobby I think this pod cast idea is great. More power to you. Have a good time. Knock yourself out. As far as being a morning show somewhere, it is crap. If I were to walk into a party and you guys were having this conversation somewhere in the room, I would avoid you. You guys are bigtime bores. You truly think, in your unimaginative minds, that parallel parking is a way to start this pod cast. There is no creativity whatsoever in this endeavor. You had all the time in the world to come up with this and you put absolutely no creative thought into it. You just looked on the front page of a newspaper. If you are going to continue this, find someone that can help you find interesting topics to talk about.

Needs more ------ [ed: Since when is the slang word for "flatulence" a curse word? Sheesh] and penis jokes, true. And where's the wacky news/traffic girl who gets barraged with overt sexism and double entendre? Where are the prep-service parody songs and comedy cuts, the ceaselessly funny Simpsons drops from 1995 and, guys, what's up with using your real names? Come on, dudes...it's 2007. If one of you doesn't start calling himself "Earwax" or "Wheelbarrow" I'm not going to listen to another second of this. Which reminds me...you need a stunt guy / danger boy.

In only three shows ever working together, this low-tech podcast sounds already better than anything else on Atlanta radio (except maybe Bert, but I don't have the right genitalia to really warm up to that). It's intelligent, relative, and well-paced. Eric seems more likable and at ease without Larry and Jimmy doesn't get steamrolled over like with Fred. And Andrews is a perfect third-man-in. Dress it up with some production, guests, etc. and it would seem to hit a station like Dave in the middle of their demo.

I listened to #3 on the way into work this morning. They continue to get better with each one and I thought this was a highly entertaining show. EVH and Baron drove the topics, Leonard jumped in with a few good comments and once again Andrews brings the funny and ended the show with a great Baron impression.

If this crossed my desk when I was looking for a morning show (needed to do that 4 times while programming in San Diego, Seattle, Washington D.C., Tampa) I'd have turned it off after the first 60 seconds. Unimpressive.

Could you maybe have teased us with what's to be heard in the show before you launched into the parallel parking bit? I may have waded through that pp business to get to whatever else was coming up.

I don't understand the thinking that's prevalent among morning people these days. That is, just because you think it and because it's "real", you should talk about it, because in your mind the audience is hanging on every little thing that comes out of your brain/mouth. It's SO not true. The trick is, to prep it all and THEN make it sound like it's just popping out of your mouth.

What I heard here sounded too much like "hey, let's sit around on mike and see what we can come up with."

Long time reader, first time poster. I agree with this assessment on the surface but, taking into account it was only their third time sitting down together, I thought it showed great potential, especially considering the state of Atlanta radio. Were any of your morning shows, Mr. Program Director, exceptional after only three shows?

I don't believe that's the case at all. They sounded prepared and well-informed about the issues they were covering.

Sales Weasel-- you may be right about that but that wasn't my point. The beginning was a bit...haphazard...enough so for me to lose interest faster than I should have. Whether or not you like it, the fact is that when auditioning, talent really needs to impress fast. There's just too many others out there competing for the jobs, so a sloppy sounding beginning blows the opportunity to make me sit up and go "wow".

pioneerA asked whether or not all the morning shows I worked with were exceptional after three shows....good question, and the answer is no, but again, that's not the point. Are they using this podcast to find work? If the answer is yes, that's why it needs to pop right away, IMHO. It's HARD TO DO! I know...but again, if there's time to sit and plot and plan this out, as I believe there has been for Eric and Jimmy, then I'd really hope to hear more, immediately. They're talented guys and I wish them all well and hope they find something great. Never having met any of them, I understand that they're all pretty decent people, too, which really helps and is nice in this business. Best of luck to them.

Actually, that was exactly the point. As I remember, they told Rodney Ho from the AJC that they were just doing the podcasts at this point to experiment to see if they had chemistry (and I thought they kinda did IMHO). But I can't imagine they'd be using one of their first three shows as a showcase to find work, can you?

Yes, because the above quoted are the type of shows Atlanta is so full of these days. What a brilliant point about the ridiculous names that have, at times, inhabited radio. Again, thats what is so wrong with radio these days. You're blinded by hate and the lies you tell to yourself.

Simply put, It was crap.

If there's one opinion I value when it comes to evaluating creative efforts, it would certainly be from a banker. An accountant would be a close second.

pioneerA: As I remember, they told Rodney Ho from the AJC that they were just doing the podcasts at this point to experiment to see if they had chemistry.

You do a publicly available podcast to see if you have chemistry? That strikes me as....well, dumb. You don't need to make public your attempt at chemistry. You're in the studio, you tape, you listen and evaluate, you maybe pass it around to people you trust. But you don't make the experiment available for all to hear. Because, people like me (who are active and in the business) might listen and pass judgment.

Once you've determined that you could indeed click as a team--then you go public.

Or am I completely out of my mind here?

Normally I would agree but these two guys have a history of success and I think people are genuinely interested in their experiment. And if a programmer knows what he/she is doing, they would be able to recognize that these guys have much upside.
The question is where would you put them? Eric is driven by ANYthing political, but comes off like a know it all when debating political issues. Which could turn off listeners. Do you put them on a rock station? Do you try a news talk format like WGST? DaveFm could be the answer. Their demo could be conducive for this type of show. But from what I hear DaveFm is auditioning for a male co-host and not an entire show.

Who knows....?
