Eric Carmen, Raspberries Singer

One more great radio reference from the late Eric Carmen. The video is bookended by Cleveland DJ Kid Leo. The song was out in 1988, Kid Leo's last year at WMMS, before leaving for a job Columbia Records. Towards the end, there's a scene of Kid throwing darts at what appears to be a picture of Scott Shannon! By that point Scott was at Z100.

So why was Kid Leo throwing darts at Scott Shannon? First of all, both WMMS and Z100 were owned by Malrite at the time. Here's the rest of the story from Scott, posted on EricCarmen.com :

THE BERRIES WERE PRODUCED BY A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE, NAMED JIMMY IENNER,, HE KNEW I WAS FAN AND WOULD OFTEN CALL ME FROM THE ROAD WITH THE BAND,, I SAW THEM LIVE, MAYBE 7 TIMES....WHEN JIMMY BROUGHT ERIC BACK WITH HUNGRY EYES,, ERIC AND JIMMY WANTED ME TO DO A CAMEO IN THE VIDEO...I DIDNT Have TIME, THEY SAID MAYBE NEXT TIME,,

THEN CAME CONTROL,, I SAID I WOULD DO IT,,, THEN JIMMYS SECRETARY CALLED ME AND ASKED ME WHAT TIME I WANTED TO FLY TO CALIF...I SAID,, FLY WHERE?...SHE SAID TO L.A., WHERE THEY ARE DOING THE VIDEO,, I THOUGHT IT WAS BEING DONE LOCALLY IN NEW YORK CITY,, SO I TOLD ERIC, I DIDNT HAVE TIME TO FLY TO L.A... HE SAID HE UNDERSTOOD, AND THAT WAS THE END OF IT...BUT JIMMY FOUND A WAY TO GET EVEN WITH ME,,, AND STILL PUT ME IN THE VIDEO....

I NEARLY PASSED OUT WHEN I SAW IT ON MTV FOR THE 1ST TIME..

Several European countries have longer life expectancies than the U.S. And remember, to get an average number, you need equal numbers on both sides of the dividing line,
I think you mean "mean" and not "average". With "average, it is the sum of all ages of death divided by the number of persons in the sample. With "mean" it is the ´point at which there are equal numbers on each side of the median.

Brtitanica: "The arithmetic mean (usually synonymous with average) represents a point about which the numbers balance."

I guess I was calling the mean the average, but who knows? The Brittanica seems to say they can be used interchangeably, as it doesn't call the synonymous usage incorrect.

Right. But it still doesn't give a cause of death. Sleep is not even a factor unless he died of apnea. Whatever, it certainly looks like natural causes, and even if it isn't, the family is under no obligation to supply specifics.
I was just posting it as his official website offering. Cause of death still has people baffled.

Bob Lefsetz posted an email from legendary pop producer Val Garay:

I remember the day I got the call from Clive.
He said I have this album I can't seem to get finished. The producer quit and I think it's a really great record. Would you come in and finish it?

Eric Carmen - Boats Against The Current.

That voice and persona will be missed for sure.
Val Garay

The Clive he's talking about is Clive Davis, founder of Arista Records.

Listening to 70s on 7 last night and the dude said that the label didn’t want to release the song first as it wasn’t getting favorable reviews but he forced the song to be released.

Eric Carmen was remembered Thursday at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. August 11 is Eric Carmen Day on what would have been his 75th birthday.

Carmen was born & raised in Cleveland, home of the Hall, and lived there for most of his life.

It was a celebratory and emotional afternoon at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Thursday as family, friends and fans of Eric Carmen and the Raspberries were on hand as the late singer-songwriter and his band were awarded the City of Cleveland’s second annual Music Keynote to the City by City Councilman Brian Kazy.

One of his less famous songs "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" was quite popular, as I recall back in 1976/77 era. I remember hearing it on a lot of "MOR" stations back then.
