ESPN 98.7?

JayDee3 said:
Newark's 94.7 is still up for grabs. Michaels reportedly tried to say that he doesn’t think WFME has come on the market despite reports of the Christian station being sold. They can buy it because 94.7 wouldn’t put CBS over the limit an owner can own in one market. That is 5 FMs/3 AMs.

I thought CBS was maxed out in NYC since they purchased TV station WLNY 10/55. Even if CBS isn't maxed out, the fact this radio head is overlooking is that WFME is not a full-market FM signal and cannot be moved to Manhattan to become one, unless the author knows something we don't.

Even if CBS is eligible to purchase 94.7, it serves them no purpose if its stick cannot be moved to Manhattan. :)

The article referenced on the above post from an urban radio website mentions that WXRK HD4 is Mets Radio. I am not picking that up on my receiver, though there has been a quiet HD4 channel that has occasionally showed up on WXRK 92.3 over the past few weeks.
Perhaps this station is on the way, as there are a few HD subchannels devoted to specific teams in various cities.

How so? The New York market has approximately 2 million Spanish-speaking people...that's more then the ENTIRE population of Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia radio metro is 5.3 million, not 2 million.

I was referring to the city, not the metro. Even so, the New York area has a HUGE number of Spanish-speaking people and the success of the existing Spanish-speaking stations proves it. Will ESPN Deportes attract them? The jury is still out.

I'm not too sure about how successful ESPN Deportes will be in NY, in DFW it does pretty poorly. Then again its not on the best stick either.

Doesn't matter. All it has to do is have a presence in the market. That's how Disney operates. The goal is to further the brand, not get great ratings. The station isn't getting great ratings now. Anything will be an improvement. But getting great ratings was never the goal. The goal is to extend the brand. That's how you make the big money.

1050 here is pretty strong. 50,000 Watts, Class B. Add to the fact that you have a large Latino population here that does follow up on sports, this may actually work out. Aside from WADO carrying Mets games in Spanish, you don't have a full time sports station in New York geared to the Latino community. So this may work out. It won't be a ratings winner....far from it, but for AM it will be okay.

In the ESPN press release, some other lineup changes were announced, however:

http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/7857507/espn-new-york-1050-moving-987-fm-dial

Weekdays:

Midnight-4am ESPN Sportsnight/Overnight (national)
4-6am Maxed Out with Jared Max (local)
6-10am Mike and Mike (national)
10am-Noon Colin Cowherd - In The Herd (national)
Noon-1pm Mike Lupica with Don LaGreca (local)
1-3pm Steven A. Smith with Ryan Ruocco (local)
3-6pm Michael Kay with Don LaGreca (local)
6-9pm Dave Rothenberg (local)
9pm-Midnight Bill Daughtry (local)

Weekends/Saturdays:

10am-Noon Patrick McEnroe with Robin Lundberg
(could also fill in during the week)

The format change occurs on 98.7 FM at Midnight Sunday night 4/29/12-Monday morning 4/30/12.
At that moment, Steven A. Smith will be the first host on the new frequency (which will be simulcast on 1050 AM); he'll do a local show (maybe until 4am when Jared Max comes in).

WEPN has gone almost all-local on a couple of occasions, usually after weekend NY Jet playoff games/important NY Jet regular season games.

Clarification on the weekend schedule for ESPN Radio New York and the debut show on the FM simulcast:

Saturday

7-10am Robin Lundberg
10am-Noon Patrick McEnroe

Sunday

6-9am Robin Lundberg

All other slots should remain the same or (as they've been at times) flexible depending on the season or weekend game broadcasts.

Steven A. Smith will crack the mic from Midnight-2am on Monday morning 4/30/12 in the debut of the 1050 AM/98.7 FM simulcast.

Yes, it is maxed out. TV counts against the market total. 6 radio and 2 tv for a total of 8.

Just what I thought! Sometimes we know more than these supposed "radio heads"! :)

In preparing on recording airchecks from the last weekend of WRKS' "Kiss-FM" at 98.7, I started recording it this morning at 6 AM Saturday morning with Felix Hernandez continues all the way through until now. It's Saturday night, and I'm still recording it. I finished recording Mike Shannon and Bugsy, so I'm recording the last Cocoa Chanelle's "Ladies Night" show tonight playing nothing but rap music which I don't really care about this garbage.

Tomorrow, I'm going to record the last "Open Line" show, the last Sunday's Felix Hernandez "Rhythm Review" show, the last "Champagne & Bubbles" show with Andre Harrell, the final "Soul Beginnings" show with Bob Slade and the last "Week in Review" to end the station with a bang, but I'll have to skip the Al Sharpton's "Hour of Power" show at 9 PM tomorrow, because I'm not recording it. After these are done, I will be posting the airchecks of the final shows heard on "Kiss-FM" at 98.7.

Stay tuned for more about this final weekend of "Kiss-FM".

I remember last year when WQQQ in Sharon, CT was sold to WSHU public radio and I recorded the last days of "Q103" back in late February 2011, but I have all of these aircheck that I recorded it so far. And now, I'm still in the recording the final shows on "Kiss-FM".

Do you know any more Urban AC Stations as Diverse as Kiss? It's real Unique The Depth of this station is unmatched from what I heard. Any Other Urban ACs Play as much Rap as Kiss. Bet BLS wont play no where near this.

I just checked the HD side of 98.7.
HD2, which normally carries the Asian programming of HumDesi Radio, is broadcasting just an open carrier. And HumDesi's online link for New York is also silent. Links for HumDesi in other cities are functioning.
In addition, there is now an HD3, which the frequency previously did not have. It is also currently an open carrier.

Update: HumDesi wasn't off the air for long at all. As of midnight, they have moved to WQHT HD2, displacing the WRXP format that had been on there for the past few months.
Perhaps WRXP may be moving to 98.7 HD2 or HD3. Or maybe ESPN has leased the HD channels in addition to the main 98.7 frequency. Guess we'll find out in a day or so.

Disney, Please tell me you got Red Alert's Last show. I think it was his last show Anywhere.

I have the aircheck though, it was recorded on a reel-to-reel tape at 1 7/8 IPS, and it's a full 2-hour farewell show. Late last night, I recorded the "Kiss-FM Farewell Party" with DJ Chuck Chillout and then the "Kiss-FM Master Mixes" final show since I was recording while I was in bed, it was an all-night party right up until the tape ran out and the stream doesn't buffered when I checked it. I turned the tape over and record the last few minutes of the "Kiss-FM Master Mixes" final show which it finally ended at 4:30 AM.

I didn't record "Kiss Inspirations" this morning, because I'm not huge at gospel music, but I go to church occasionally. This morning, I recorded the first hour of "Open Line" which was their final show and recorded the second hour of the last show, because I left the house to go grocery shopping since I was away right up to the final Sunday edition of "Rhythm Revue" with Felix Hernandez since I came back from grocery shopping.

I'll post the rest of the last day soon.

 :'( Very sad to hear about this.
Was that necessary?

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

It sure was. Just stating a famous quote which appears to be true sometimes.
You need to lose that quote.

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

No need to. Its my opinion about this bad situation and if you dont like it, you need to lose your focus on it simply. Thank you!
