ESPN Radio to Move to 1040

1470 is no longer receivable south of the skyway due to the interference caused by the HD trash coming from 1450 in sarasota. it really trashes 1470

How much of an improvement is this in signal strength from 1470?

It all depends on where you live and what time of day you like to listen. There is some gain in some areas, and some loss in others.

So the question now is: what do they put on 1470?

You can have your own 60-minute show for the price of a 60-second commercial.

Back from the mid 80's through the sale of LVU AM/FM in '98, we did the time-broker thing on 1470. Granted, it wasn't pretty, however, blessed with signal problems it was a good business venture. Most of those years we sold time to two Greek brothers. Interesting guys to say the least, however, picking up the check was an adventure. We would meet on the sponge docks, haggle over the amount owed, and eat great Greek food. Ahh, the good old days!

The radio locator plots for 1040's nite signal are their licensed parameters. They havent been able to use their licensed nite signal since one of their towers fell down. They are operating on Special Temp Authority with very low non directional signal since. Most nites here in Bradenton, WHO is stronger than they are. If they can ever get back to their licensed nite signal, things would improve for them. I'm really surprised that massive litigation has not occured over the fallen tower. But, maybe after they purchase 820, they might share the 820 site with 1040 since they are not that far apart, and you could probably make 1040 play nice at that site at nite. Dont know what they will do with 1520 which also eminates from 1040's site.

I think this a very good move for ESPN Radio to move to AM-1040 WWBA. WWBA and WMGG-AM so does WDAE reach the Tallahassee area and the florida big bend during the daytime which is where I am in Crawfordville.

Here in Tallahassee AM-1410 WHBT drop the ESPN Radio a few weeks ago so that might be some good news for Tallahassee if anyone can pick up Tampa's 1040 singal. Now for AM-1470 thier singal is okay but around 3pm or so thier singal begins to mess up and I am thinking those big AM nights stations begins kicking in from AM-1470-1700.

..in the meantime, thanks a whole lot for blacking out the ESPN feed of the Brewers-Phillies game in the Tampa market...Gee.. Phillies have been training for how many years in Clearwater?

Havent listened in years. What would be more important on that station than an MLB Playoff game..especially since they are airing the other two games.

Same old game. Won't give up the local ad dollars from the local shows in order to provide the more compelling national broadcast. They lose too many minutes when taking the feed, they'll do it for the Rays and they'll do it at night, but not during daylight for anyone else.

I'm going to shout at them... THEY HAVE TWO SIGNALS!!!! THEY COULD HAVE RUN THEIR REGULAR PROGRAMMING ON 1040 AND THE GAME ON 1470!!!! HOW HARD IS IT TO THINK OF THAT????

OK, I'm better now.

And by the way, ESPN's O&O in Pittsburgh ran the game and bumped their local afternoon show over to the web!!

By the way, this will be the second time that the sports format will be on 1040. Back in the early or mid '90s, we had "1040 The Score" for a little while under the WMTX call letters.

At night, here in South Tampa, 1040 suffers from interference from Cuba. A friend in St. Petersburg told me he has the same problem with 1040 at night. The owners ought to give some thought to correcting the antenna problem referenced in one of the earlier posts.

They apparently heard you as 1040 was simulcasting 1470 earlier today beginning around noon and then through the ESPN Radio broadcast of the Rays game till around 6:30. It was then that 1040 went back to the WWBA programming referring people to 820. I'd expect the same tomorrow afternoon as well.

And let me add this... GREAT move by Genesis. Say what you will about the talent or the programming but they got it right today. LIVE and LOCAL from at least noon till game time while 620 was running Jim Rome. SERIOUSLY... if there was any a day to drop the national feed and program locally for at least for a few hours, today was the day. You mean to tell me that Ron and Ian couldn't have knocked out another hour or two or Duemig couldn't have come in early? That's just LAME.

PS... Tuned around the dial after the Rays big win and heard one of the Buc's shows on 620. Yeah Yeah... I get it that the Rays are on 1250. That's fine... But the Bucs? Like I can't hear that on 103.5 if I really wanted too. Clear Channel screwed up today in my opinion.

Radio blackout rules must have changed. Back in the day, a playoff teams radio broadcast would blackout any national radio feed of the game. That would mean exclusivity for CC over ESPN.

And how bout this? 970 will air Fridays game, lol. Gee, years after dumping the Rays to 1250, all of a sudden they want them back for the playoffs.

So hows the view from your seat on the bandwagon, 970?

And speaking of bandwagon, arent we glad that the Rays didnt take the advice of Ron and Ian to sack Maddon last season?

Those two guys sure know their baseball.....

Today's game is also on 970? THAT'S STUPID. You're not gaining any more coverage or sound quality over 1250. Way to go Clear Channel... keep confusing people. Listen... if you wanna be a cheerleader and put it on one of your other signals, use some brains and PUT IT ON 98 ROCK or MIX. God knows XTB just might get a bump from running some promos and gaining some listeners in the demo MALES 25-54. Why would you duplicate programming on the AM side when 970 and 1250 have essentially the same signal. Geeez... the thinking over there makes my head spin.

Now Genesis running the ESPN on 1040 and 1470 I get. Go figure... someone is paying attention over there for a change.
