ESPN Radio to Move to 1040

I disagree that there's no difference in coverage between 970 and 1250. i always found 970's signal to be much better in northern Pinellas.

Plus, these games might help 970's ratings. They don't care about 1250's ratings.

Why's 970's ratings so important? Are they about to sink or something?

Seems they've been at the top of the perch for years.

Sorry to disappoint, but yesterday's game was simulcasted on 970 (without the pregame), which I think was a great idea, because I can't get 1250 at my house in North Pinellas, whereas 970 comes in clear.

Today's game is also on 970? THAT'S STUPID. You're not gaining any more coverage or sound quality over 1250. Way to go Clear Channel... keep confusing people. Listen... if you wanna be a cheerleader and put it on one of your other signals, use some brains and PUT IT ON 98 ROCK or MIX. God knows XTB just might get a bump from running some promos and gaining some listeners in the demo MALES 25-54. Why would you duplicate programming on the AM side when 970 and 1250 have essentially the same signal. Geeez... the thinking over there makes my head spin.

100% agreement. Years ago when CC moved the Rays to 1250, I said if they ever make the World Series, or even the playoffs, the games will move back to 970 so fast your head'll spin. Not that WFLA listeners would want to talk about the DEBATE or the BAILOUT that evening; God forbid they tune to a sister station for ANYTHING that might be worth listening to. WHNZ has always been treated like crap, rather than a separate brand that could complement or flank. It's an eternal flaw in WFLA's programming strategy: rather than wow people with quality, they have always won by bullying, even when they owned the station that could have been their greatest threat. It's part of what makes this markets' radio programming so disappointing.

I wonder whether 1040 could improve its night time signal by diplexing on 1380's site. Close enough to Pinellas Park to (maybe) provide city-grade to the required 80 percent of the metropolis -- and a little closer to Tampa and the salt-water conductivity of the Bay...
