ESPN/Sporting News/Premiere

I remember Renshaw doing 10pm-2am, and he stated that he was moving to the midday slot and was going to kick the Fabulous Sports
Babe's butt. That's when it became obvious that daytime sports programming was either ESPN or Jim Rome. SportsFan network and 1on1
got affiliates for nights and overnights, but their shows almost never got picked up in the daytime. Renshaw did nothing in middays.
Since then, FSR has come along and made some inroads, and Dan Patrick is starting to grow his show in late mornings, but it is still a Jim
Rome-ESPN world from 6am-4pm.
Does any sportstalk historian out there remember whom Renshaw succeeded in the 10am slot at 1on1?

Did some homework for you on the over-hyped Renshaw. (He definitely has some publicists at work on here, probably him under three aliases).
1) If you are a top sports talk talent, you are not working in Louisville.
2) If you are a top sports talk talent, you have not bounced around from employer to employer. When you are good and get ratings, they tend to back up the brinks truck and pay you.
3) His work on the "national" level, if you call it that with that garbage operation, was never a ratings success anywhere. I use top 7 or 8 shows with Males 25-54.
The fact is losers that don't have real jobs and no need to get up in the morning would relate to Renshaw. That is why he is perfect for something like 10pm to 2am.
He has been trying for years to get on the air in Atlanta again and has been rebuked every time.
You don't get to play on a big stage when people don't listen to you on the little stage.

(You do when you have had drug & alcohol issues).

(See # 1)

(That garbage operation employed, Peter Brown, Steve Czaban, Jay Marriotti, Scott Ferrall (when it was SEN) and a few other good hosts).

(I worked in sales in the radio biz & had kids waking me up in the night & I would listen on my headphones to pass the time... guess that makes me a loser)

He has been trying for years to get on the air in Atlanta again and has been rebuked every time.

(No one in a MAJOR market will touch him again after the debacle in KC. WHB is a good & extremely profitable station. He is his own worst enemy. He & Ferrall created the guy talk genre you listen to).

I think your kind of an ESPN gas bag, from what I notice on these boards. I love Cowherd, but you couldn't pay me to listen to anyone else on there. Including your beloved John Kincade or Cowherd Light as he's affectionately known as in some circles.

Why must you berate other people's opinions & even worse claim it's Renshaw himself? It's almost laughable to think that would be the case. It's more laughable that you pass yourself as this sports talk guru or genius. There is no right or wrong. It's only a matter of taste. Plenty of people who post on this board do it to reminisce about hosts from the past who they may have enjoyed & are just curious as to their whereabouts.

Maybe, you should just relax & let people enjoy a discussion?

Nothing personal, just a bit annoying.
::)

Nail on the head sportsdotcom

John has been his own worst enemy, but I really think he is starting to wisen up just a little bit, hopefully. All I know is that I spent 9 months being the station producer for the successor to The Ticket WYSR ESPN 1590 back in 2004-05 and whenever we went on remotes we always had people ask about John.

BTW- John's station 93.9 is not streaming, I don't even think they have a site set up. He was streamed before the buyout and reshuffling but considering what I hear about the parent corporation they are now under the control of I kind of have my doubts that he will be streaming anytime soon. But I can assure you he has not lost anything off the fastball.

Sportsdotcom, you are absolutely right. I apologize.
The Renshaw subject matter always annoys me though. I have personally employed a few guys of that same ilk, solid talent but the mentality of a 5th grader. They have cost me and others operations dearly over the years.
I just like to bring a little factual information to the discussions. That is not meant to be arguing, just bringing out the true facts.
Renshaw was never a ratings success on the national level. It just seems that his fans try to go back and re-write history.
I do tend to favor the ESPN product personally, ratings wise it is also a much mroe accepted and profitbale product.

What was the "debacle" he had in KC? I live in Louisville and listened when he was on 1on1 and I listen everyday now on the Cumulus owned 93-9 The Ticket.

Loved One on One Sports/SNR in the mid 90's to early 00's! Great line up! I loved Czaban, Aparacio, Mariotti, Peter Brown, Kevin Wahl, and James Brown. Bruce Murray was a great interviewer on weekends and then with Troy Aikman. Hated Murray when he was doing his M-I-T-M show, tho. Too bad the network lost all that talent.

Today, I love FSR. Czaban still kicks butt and Chris Myers has my afternoon vote. My only real fav on ESPN is M&M, but I'm a Czaban girl so I don't listen to them often.

Chris Meyers is boring.

I agree about SNR the only show I listen to most often is Todd Wright been listening to him since the old ESPN days. Jason Smith replacing him was awful someone tell Jason that referencing pop culture is just not cool anymore or scale it back big time. My opinion is that there is way too much sports talk now and its painful to listen to now that the sports calendar is thin. What are they going to talk about? 24/7?

Mike Tirico is ok at best on TV, but he is absolutely bad on radio. Scott Van Pelt seems ok, but I always think of him as "the kid who wants to hang with the cool older kids" and I agree on Tafoya. I laughed when I read that comment about ESPN finding someone less interesting than Dan Patrick, Tirico is it. ESPN overall is not good.

FSR's best hosts are on the weekends and Steve Czaban comes on too early for me, but I still like his show when I catch it. I agree with Siciliano and JT is too "we have to be intense 24/7" when there is absolutely nothing happening in sports and I am one a fan of the Rome saying "less of you more of me" too many bad callers make me change the station.
