Mr. Shreck, like I mentioned before, there is a satellite radio service that's available now that has nothing but international programming. I've seen the schedule or roster. Why don't you and the following postees subscribe to that.
That means we can keep our Washington DC based satellite service 98% english.
But to make peacenicks like you satisfied....everything has to be across the board.

Mr. Shreck....I've been all over the country and a few others. The American Incorporated world invented most of the pleasures like Disney amusement parks, unfortunately McDonald's which I don't eat at, and if there is a demand to see 50 Cents (An American Artist)in concert in Moscow which I wouldn't see for free, More power to both of us. I love the British Invasion. And most Americans accepted it. The things you mention are enjoyed or accepted by the people in the other countries. Not forced upon them , like another language or cultural channel over the airwaves that most of us don't care for or will understand.

Where is all these instructors coming from all of sudden. When did you become the bachelor degree of the internet. Where did you get your degree...Phoenix University online?
Yes, I admit, I did a half fast job on my first post. It's my adrenaline and my cheap $8.00 keyboard which had sloppy effects on my rant. (But I have a nice computer network system "Ya know").

Primarily it is for music, or there wouldn't be 5 million subscribers. I don't have to say anything... I just listen.

And you do have a clue? Then maybe you can answer this, how many TV's and Radios are still manufactured in the USA? Can you name the brands? And what cities or towns benefit financially from the manufacture of said products?

Sorry that you feel that way. Personally, I enjoy learning about other cultures and welcome them and their influence into our country. I find the venomous hatred toward immigrants (Mexicans and other Hispanics in particular come to mind) by some to be absurd. Who are you to bash these people for wanting to come to America and better themselves. All of our ancestors and families did the same thing in the past, but now that you are in, lets seal all the doors. That's an elitist, selfish, uncaring, attitude if I ever saw one.

I agree with the other person who said that "it is comments and people like you that cause hatred of the U.S. around the world". I couldn't agree more. This "yeah, we're better than you and we're always right" macho type junk is exactly why we are in the shape we are today around the world. If we had someone who would communicate and really work to solve issues instead of a cowboy, shoot 'em up, "let's go a' huntin' fer the turrists" attitude, I think we would certainly accomplish a lot more.

With that said, to answer your question and accusation; Yes, I am a liberal. Yes, I am a democrat. And I certainly am very PROUD to admit and say that. You say I'm a "metrosexual". You've labled others as "droopy pants and nose ring wearing". What's with all the labels? Maybe I am a metrosexual. (I am not into guns, hunting, fishing, working with powertools, etc.) So maybe I'm not the typical "macho" guy you think we all should be. But who cares. I don't need to display some neanderthal "machoism" to feel like a man. I think people who do are amusing, actually. And no, gasp, I'm not gay (but I do have friends who are and I see nothing wrong with that either). Anyway, I've had enough of wasting my time on this. You aren't going to change your mind and neither am I. I just find it sad and disheartening that there are still people in this day and age that are so close-minded and uncaring for others, and who have such a self-focused world view. And what's even more saddening is when it isn't enough to have those views themselves, but they want to force everyone else to conform to them as well (examples; censorship, abortion, religion, etc.) So as far as your statement about moving to another country goes; Yeah, if folks like yourself are the ones in power and making decisions, sign me up and I'll be the first to move and not look back. But let's hope that isn't the case, because, as hard as it may be for you to believe, I love the U.S. Yes, GASP,.... you don't have to be a right wing nut job to be patriotic!

Re: ANGRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apco25:
How can you compare Howard Stern with ethnic programming.
And not every U.S. Russian citizen (I would say most) ever
heard of XM let alone subscribe to it.

Of course not 100% but not 100% of Howards listeners are getting Sirius. Russian-Americans represent a big, often untapped, market with high purchasing power, high propensity to consume distinctive ethnic properties which often require consumption of certain goods and services, like alcoholic beverages, brand-name clothing, high end technology, or expensive jewelry.

So most Russian-American's do know about XM or Sirius, it comes with there new cars, they know all about it from reading about new technology.

You also said that there is already an ethnic satellite service. Which one is that?

Do you have a clue....

The biggest oxymoron is that the English usage in his flaming rant is abismal.

According to your rant, XM & SIRIUS is for providing American entertainment. So that means you want to get rid of every NON-American company played. You know, like The Beatles, AC/DC, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, the ENTIRE British invasion, Lars of Metallica isn't American born, so I guess he goes too...where was I...Santana, Shania Twain, Los Lobos, Bob Marley, Celine Dion..where does the list end?

He may have been talking about "Signal Radio", which was launched last year sometime. It was a brokered-time deal, where anyone who wanted could pay to have their station broadcast on the satellites. I haven't heard anything about them in a year though, and their website (www.signalradio.us) doesn't seem to work anymore either. They may have gone belly-up already.

The only other satellite radio service is Worldspace, which is not available in North America.

With the election season upon us you should trademark that sell it to someone. That's a great catch phrase for a left wing guy.

I'm Tom So-So I love the US you don't have to be a right wing nut job to be patrotic.

>Sir, you need to read the post further down.......where myself welcomed and loved the British Invasion. If most Americans are willing to except the dominance of the airwaves of British artist back in the mid 60's, I'm all for it. It's what Americans like. One thing I do know what American citizens will not pay for, is a media entertainment player that's diluted with foreign languages. Even if it becomes 40%.
What you may not realize is in Countries like Canada, Venezuela, Mexico, would never let foreign material dominate their airwaves. Stations have to comply that a certain percentage of domestic artists and plays must be featured on domestic or local airwaves. That means that there never would have been a British Invasion in Canada. The Beatles cannot have more airplay then the Guess Who. Check it out.

I'll be glad to look it for you, and I believe this satellite service, XM has investment in it. Last time I glanced at this, they were providing Indian, Euro, and maybe Russian (I'm not sure on that), I believe the stock was in the teens last time I checked. I'll try to look this up.
Nothing wrong with having that, as long as I don't have to share my bandwidth with it is what I'm stating.

No not the first one, that's gone. World Space is what I'm refering to. That's it. I wasn't sure if it was available in the US or not. But that's your International XM/Sirius programming stations. I'm sure I heard some speculation that it will be available here one day.

Ironically, it's the Canadian rules that may lead to fewer cultures being represented on XM. The Canadian government has specified that XM carry eight Canadian-oriented channels instead of letting the market decide.

Without the mandatory Canadian channels, there would be more room for XM to experiment with niches like the original poster's Russian channel idea. With the Canadian channels, XM's bandwidth is being stretched to the max.

Supposedly, XM has been experimenting with a new technology called "hierarchical modulation" that would allow for more channels within the current bandwidth with no degradation in quality. There's been no word on if or when XM can make it work in the real world.

Another possibility for ethnic programming is the terrestrial licenses XM recently bought on frequencies adjacent to their satellite bandwidth. While XM is prohibited from originating local content on its repeaters, these licenses would not have that limitation. These licenses could be used to target different areas of the country with region-specific programming, so New York could get Russian programming, Texas could get extra Mexican programming, etc. without using satellite bandwidth.
Edited by Slinky on 11/03/05 06:58 PM.

It's not impossible that it would be here one day, but it would take a mammoth effort to get the FCC to go along with that.

XM owns part of Worldspace, so any sort of Worldspace expansion into the US would be opposed not only by the anti-satellite NAB, but also Sirius, who wouldn't think it fair that their competitor gets extra bandwidth.

As far as satellite goes, the US is stuck with XM and Sirius for the foreseeable future.
