EVANSVILLE NEEDS AN ALTERNATIVE

Is it me, or do you think that 107.1 would make a great Alternative/AAA like 94.9 in Cincinnati?

Tune it to not compete with WSTO but to compliment the station and pull a few listeners from WGBF. Maybe call it Evansville's Alternative - 107.1 The Sound. I dont know, but I really think a great alternative could sell some space on the FM dial space in Evansville.

I do like that...A LOT!!!! 107.1 THE BEND, EVANSVILLE'S ALTERNATIVE

South Central could put more money on the books with this format than they are with Jack

Actually, I'm for killing the pilot and returning to WBNL; at least it would have a chance at revenue.

As long as we're armchair quarterbacking let me add my play of the day; move The Pump to 107.1 and spin off 1400AM to Gospel; just a thought.

Its a good idea at thought, but I really think with it being a college town that an Alternative/AAA would do great!

AAA would be a better idea as there is too much grunge in the market. (GBF, ABX, KTG just to name a few). But I don't see anything beyond 107.1 being a pond in the radio chess game between South Central and Regent.

As you said, with the college population there's lots of potential for a AAA format. However, if either side of the street decided to place the format on a signal chances are it would be boring, over produced and short lived. It's like asking for steak but receive a rice patty soaked in beef bullion.

Hate to tell you this. Alternative doesn't sell.

I myself am not out of school yet, and personally I [[and many of my friends]] love alternative. I think it's a great idea. :)

Upon research, we have compiled that the Alternative/AAA is coming back. The college female to the age of 34 is really enjoying the alternative rock cuts and the male core base is already there. Radio is evolving and now about being new, fresh, unique and free.

All I thought was a station that leaned more AAA than Alternative, but still played those cuts would do great in Evansville.

Yeah because alternative stations do so good and make a ton of money everywhere else, right?

I love 94.9 The Sound in Cincinnati. I would love to hear a station programmed like that here in Indianapolis.

I've been saying for years that WTTS should be programmed like that.

Ahh, but dream will be dreams.

Pop Alternative/AAA is on a resurgance. Research is continually proving that these stations are making more money than their Hot AC counterparts in a lot of markets.

Its about radio being different, and thats what the next generation of 25-54's which are currently our 18-34's want to hear.

I will say this as an observation with no ARB to back it up, because the two that play in the genre' are non-coms....But, it does stun me how many 35 year olds stop me on the street about our little LPFM with 58 watts at 130 feet... With the new rock (pop) / alternative format, we seem to be getting on the street feedback from 25 to 34 year olds.. It does surprise me in our hybrid and the college version up at rimshot/50kw-WVJC (as well)... I look at our net/webcasting numbers and they keep going up on our standard website, but our myspace is blowing off the wall from everypart of the country... Our underwriting is double what it was six months ago and the sponsors are coming to us, while we pitch football and basketball for a local high school sports power in the thick of our main analog signal.. And, with the former superior LPFM signal at 102.7 losing everything beyond their small 60dbu (due to a 102.9 moving to 102.7 and moving in 20 miles closer to Evansville), I don't mind the morning inversion from 100kw WDDJ-Paducah one or two days a week....www.wyir.com or myspace.com/969thewire ... "Skippy at the helm" 8)

Nah, Evansville has all the formats it can support for now.

Come back with your question if changes in the makeup of the population happen.

I think one of the CHRs could stand to do something else...

Although 95.3 Morganfield is providing something close to AAA (at least when I was in Ev. last in mid-June)

Speaking of 95.3...I've been so busy to ask anyone...Where did the new upgraded 95.3 go??? They just went 'poof' off-the-air weeks ago and nothing is there.. The reconstituted WMSK is doing fine at 101.3 in Morganfield... ???

I wondered about 95.3 myself, it just disappeared. Radio-Locator doesn't even show 95.3 anymore. Plus, I wouldn't call what they were doing AAA, more like light talk with less rock...or did i get that backward.

But back to the topic, there's always room for any format; it's just a matter of promoting it and selling the results otherwise known as radio 101. The folks high atop Mount Engelbrecht could do Alternative on 107.1. If aggressive, GBF's world outside of Bob and Tom might change. This could be especially true if you weren't scared to add a few local and regional artist. But of course this is all theory :)

well, let's not be too closed-minded OK? ;D

i read the disclaimer at the bottom of the page a few days ago and had a chuckle.. everyone should read it!

It's not being close minded, it's just saying that the MAJOR voids are indeed filled.

I guess if you wanted WEOA on FM(I do) or a Alternative/Modern AC, that could be a flanker for either Regent or South Central, but it wouldn't be a primary focus for either and no one would effectively program or either sell the stations well. Like I said, our only option is for a revolving door at 107.1. Other then that, oh well. Enjoy your WKDQ, WLFW, WBKR, and WIKY. And mabye a little WGBF-FM and WSTO on the side.
