Exceptional Adult Standards stations that stream

There are exceptional Adult Standards stations that stream live over the Internet:

KABL - San Francisco, California (Internet Only)
KRLI FM 103.9 - Malta Bend, Missouri
KCEA FM 89.1 - Atherton, California
KZQX FM 104.7 - Chalk Hill, Texas
WKHR FM 91.5 - Bainbridge, Ohio
WMKV FM 89.3 - Reading, Ohio

KRLI and KABL mix Adult Standards with some Beautiful Music. KCEA, KZQX, WKHR, and WMKV do a good job of concentrating on Adult Standards music, e.g., no soft rock garbage to insult the tastes of Adult Standards lovers.

Are there any other exceptional Adult Standards stations that stream live over the Internet?

I wish Bob Bittner Broadcasting would stream WJIB or WJTO so that we can listen to Mr. Bittner's mix of Adult Standards and Beautiful Music. In case Mr. Bittner is reading this, please stream WJIB or WJTO. We'd love to hear how you mix up the music. Thanks in advance.

Ditto!

May I also recommend KZQX LP down in Texas? Thank You.

Thanks. I'm very humbled. I'll pass the compliments on to our all-volunteer staff. It's truly a labor of love, and we are always happy to take suggestions from our listeners.

Dream on Ivan, that will never happen.. WJIB and WJTO will probably never stream, due to Bob's hatred for the music licensing companies.

Can't say I blame JIBGUY. Man works his butt off to provide a service to listeners by giving them what they want - albeit, in a niche fashion - and he gets penalized with a spike in music rights fees. Can't win for losing!

It sounds like the British accented woman you heard is actually a computer voice, as I recognize it from other files the Int'l Radio Club Of America and The National Radio Club sends to stations doing DX Tests.

WJIB: 2006 music licensing fees $5,600. /// 2007: $33,000. !! - It's not the royalties collectors I'm perturbed at, but moreso the corporate radio [EDIT]that came up with the new 2007 formula, which takes the weight off the biggest stations to some significant extent and places that weight on smaller stations (top 100 markets only). Royalties collectors are getting just a tiny bit more in 2007 than 2006. The reason I'm not streaming is that I don't have the time to set it all up, and because of all the fluctuations in royalties rates/conditions. It can actually be financially dangerous to stream since many new rates are proposed retroactively for up to 2 years prior to new rules. (not Bill Maher's 'new rules').

Sounds like something out of Hogan's Heroes...Goldilocks to Papa Bear...Goldilocks to Papa Bear...Come In Papa Bear. ;D

I know you purebred "Standards" lovers (like me) will probably say this isn't your cup of tea, but here is a station I am considering a consulting opportunity.

He streams at low bit rate, and I've explained that this must change, especially for a limited coverage AM. The internet needs to be heavily promoted on air, which it isn't at all.

He is a Dial Global affiliate and they are not doing what he wants. To much A/C and chit chat. No control of the tempo in any daypart. Can wake up to 30 minutes of slow songs, old songs, then up songs for 20 minutes. it's "AOR" ... All Over the Road.

Would appreciate your comments. This stream lasts three hours, then repeats:

The image voice is the legendary Dick Whittington of KGIL, KMPC, KIEV, KABC and KHJ in LA, as well as KSFO in San Francisco.

Would appreciate your input. It's an MOR ... not a "true Standards" station. See what you think.

High Bitrate Stereo: http://www.sloweather.com:8000/listen.pls Low Bitrate Mono: http://franklin.tbo.net:8016/listen.pls

Thanks for listening and participating!

I listened to this station while in college...still listen to the stream often. Always liked the locally-emphasized imaging that ties to the region, but agree the steam quality needs improvement (especially recently). I have to admit I still enjoy the music rotation, even though it's Dial Global. Yes, they are playing more gold AC now but I always thought it complimented the big band/standards classics well. But that's just my .02

Good comments, and hopefully, we'll get more.

Dial-Global is leaning more heavily into A/C gold and less into the "standards" and especially the "Big Bands." Don't hear any of them, now, but do hear some of the 50s and early 60s coming back, as I'm integrating, but cautiously, on this stream. I am also focusing on better tempo control than Dial-Global.

Are repeats of songs in a given day or day to day a problem to you and to listeners in general? Also, there is an influx of "turntable" hits being used as filler songs that concern me a bit.

And thanks for the comments on the stream. Yeah...24k for an AMer isn't much good in this day and age. We need to make it a stereo equivalent of FM online, at least. Lots of people listen to the station online, we're finding.

That's a good question. I had a listener complain that we should have at least a seven day interval before a song is repeated. That's asking a lot. We play well over 400 songs per day. That's 2800+ per week. I don't think that's desirable, even if you could find nearly 3000 killer songs. Top 40 worked for a reason. People like hearing music that is familiar to them.

For the summer we're experimenting with no repeats for three days. I'm thinking even that is too much. Somewhere there is a happy medium. If you find it, let me know.
