Ez 87.7

Probably not. The station is actually licensed as an LPTV station.

I listen to it in the car sometimes. Can't pick it up in the house, but can get a week signal on the TV occasionally. My only complaint is I wish they would do something about the scratchy sssssibilance. It would be nice if they could hook a camera and broadcast video along with the live sports.

Pat3, you are correct. There have been some issues with the transmitter and studio wiring. HOWEVER, these issues are being addressed and the sound quality is getting better.
THANKS FOR LISTENING !!

Recently I have been receiving the station on 87.9 instead of 87.7. For a couple of days I thought the station was off the air, but when I scanned the FM band ez87.7 locked in on 87.9. I tend to listen more to the station this time of year as 105.1 has gone to Christmas before Thanksgiving.

I noticed that too. It's been on 87.9 for about a week. Before that it seemed it was at greatly reduced power. I can't pick it up on channel 6 where I am so I don't know if it can be picked on TV if the audio is on 87.9. They need to fix that I'm sure it is illegal. The correct frequency for channel 6 is 87.75Mhz

WJMF-LP is now known as EZ87FM. (Playing yesterday's hits.....today)
When the new transmitter was installed, it allows us to broadcast on both 87.7 & 87.9
Currently, the signal is stronger on 87.9 because there is still work to do to the antenna. But when that is completed, it will be strong on both 87.7 & 87.9

Gary -

Is there a new FCC rule or waiver allowing WJMF-LP to do this? If so, then it would be big news for the other LPTV Channel 6 stations still out there. 87.9 FM is much easier to receive than 87.75 MHz.

There is no new FCC Rule. Operation on 87.9MHz is not permitted. There are two stations (both in California) which are permitted to operate on 87.9MHz. All others are illegal.

There may have been some incorrect information passed our way. We are working to get a clarification as the newer Fords cannot receive 87.7

Over the years I've come across a lot of (digitally tuned) radios that can't tune to 87.7 for some reason. It's not just newer Fords, I've driven two that don't go down to 87.7 that were 90's vintage models. There's another automaker that I seem to recall had a radio that wouldn't tune that, but I can't remember who it was.

I had assumed that the FCC had not changed the LPTV Channel 6 rules, as there would have been lots of press coverage about it. Is there any timetable for switching back to 87.7?

Most newer digital radios will not tune 87.7 - 87.9 is actually part of the FM broadcast band (channel 200) but there are only 2 stations licensed for it, as was noted earlier in this thread. From what I understand, no new FM licenses are being issued for 87.9. I don't know enough about LPTV rules to comment on the legality of WJMF-LP airing audio on 87.9 but I would hope they consulted with their broadcast attorney before doing this.

Something else to consider - is 87.9 considered part of the non-commercial FM band? If so, then no commercial advertisements can be aired.

The non-commercial band runs from 88.1 to 91.9 MHz, so they are technically outside that. As far as I know the rules of FM broadcasting don't apply at all to the station since it's technically a TV station. But that has its own set of rules as far as deviation, modulation and all that. And it does not allow for FM-like levels of modulation nor broadcasting anywhere but 87.75 MHz for the audio carrier. Frankly, I'm not even sure the rules allow FM stereo to be used.

Well since the audio is now on 87.9 what about the video? In the past there was just an image on screen with the call letters. I'm too far out to get decent picture on channel 6. And lately I haven't been getting anything on channel 6 from my location. As far as broadcasting in Stereo. they could technically broadcast in stereo on televison but an FM radio won't decode TV stereo.
