Fake Stations On TV Shows

Hi everyone:

On The Edge of Night, the TV station on there was WMON, for Monticello, the town setting.

Likewise, Another World used KBAY (the show's town setting was Bay City) for a TV station.

I checked the FCC database, and neither calls are being used for a real TV station.
It goes even further....

Guiding Light has WSPR, which of course stands for Springfield
As The World Turns has WOAK, which of course stands for Oakdale

I think there's a few other soaps with TV stations too.

That said though, aren't the WOAK calls assigned to a real radio and/or TV station (Something tells me they are)?? Just curious....

Cheers :D

The Brady Bunch watched their Amateur Hours, Davy Jones interviews, and Jesse James movies on KBEX-TV.
You can throw in their 1980s Holiday movie into the mix as well. KBEX was used during the coverage of the accident at Roberts Towers.

I know this 'cause I've got the movie on tape.

Cheers :D

I seem to recall one scene in ER where Dr. Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards) is listening to WMAQ radio as he wakes up..TTV, where Sweet Polly works on Underdog, refers to the Underdog production company, Total Television.

No mention of the Simpsons yet? The KBBL calls used on that show had never been used until 2006, when they were picked up by Equity for an LPTV in, yes, you guessed it, Springfield, MO. "Channel Ocho"'s calls were once mentioned as KMEX, which are of course the real calls of Univision's flagship in LA.
