Fall Phase 2 Trends

Interesting trend.

KKSS loses over a share but still #2; KOB-FM flat.

ED-FM gradually losing luster; KIOT moves into 4th.

Big I, KRST and Range down, definitely not a country trend.

Mega a disappointing #19 in the market.

KAGM, well you know the story.

The Beat not working, Hot 95.1 winning convincingly.

Impressive: KLVO

Will Entravision EVER flip KRZY? What a waste. How are they making any money?

> Mega a disappointing #19 in the market.

From everything I've heard, Mega will be going away shortly. Disappointing and not getting any better sums it up perfectly.

> KAGM, well you know the story.

As I said in a previous post, I think a format change is coming. The new PD specializes in music formats.

> The Beat not working, Hot 95.1 winning convincingly.

So far, your assessment is correct. I'm surprised. Univision usually has its act together when it comes to programming, and I expected better. Returning to smooth jazz is still an option! Rumor is that KZNM will flip to smooth jazz after the book ends. However, that move makes sense, which makes me think AGM will shilly shally around too long and let someone else snap up the format.

Does KRZY have any local talent? I thought I heard local midday and afternoon announcers when I flipped it on when visiting in the summer. However, that's not the usual Entravision paradigm. Entravision tends to make money by centralizing its programming and keeping costs at the absolute bare minimum.

Just curious, where did you hear the rumor about KZNM flipping? What other rumors might you have heard about New Mexico radio? Thanks! :)

KSFQ in White Rock has a smooth jazz format. I don't know if this station can be heard in Albuquerque or not...but, if it can, are there enough listeners to support two smooth jazz stations?

Did KQBT fare much better under a smooth jazz format than it's doing now with "The Beat"?

The rumor about KZNM flipping was posted on this board about a month ago, and I had heard the exact same thing a couple or three days earlier from a friend of mine. I'm pretty sure I know who posted the rumor on this board, and he has ties to AGM and likely still associates with people in the building. Does that mean it's credible? I don't know. The fact that I've heard it from two different sources means there's definitely been some talk of it, but there's also talk of a lot of things that never happen. It definitely makes sense as KZNM effectively does nothing, and it hasn't done anything since signing on. It has very few listeners, and almost all those listeners are in a demo that has zero appeal to advertisers. As for other New Mexico radio rumors, the only other one I've heard is that Mega 104.1 is toast.

KSFQ can be heard in Albuquerque north of downtown on a good car radio. So, it can be heard in town, but not well enough to be competitive. As for whether or not there are enough listeners to support two smooth jazz stations, I would say there aren't. However, KSFQ won't be an Albuquerque station for all practical purposes, and it never will be unless some major allocation changes are made.

Ratings-wise, yes, it fared significantly better, though "The Beat" could improve in that category as time goes on, and smooth jazz had its own problems at times. Whether or not it played better with advertisers as a smooth jazz station is what matters, and that has yet to be determined.

Correct!! That station has had more musical changes than I can count!! The way it is now, I feel like I'm listening to a train wreck. D4L, then some cumbia style music, then Juanes, then 5 reggaeton songs in a row!! Serious programming issues. The only thing I can listen to is the morning guy, who seems to have his show put together pretty good. Mega needs to go away, and the staff should start putting tapes together to look for other jobs. Who's in charge at Mega? They should be sent to Radio 101!!!
