Fan Shuffles Line-Up

They're wasting Gianotti in mornings, where they're unlikely to get an audience. Should have put him in PM drive, where they could make some money with him.

This is probably the first of several moves in a series to save the format. Its like rearranging the chairs on a sinking ship. Fixing a major water leak with chewing gum. The ONLY thing and i mean the ONLY thing that will save the FAN is somehow getting the Pens or Steelers on 93.7. Cheap Channel isn't that cheap NOR that STUPID to allow that to happen. They realize The Fan does not need MM or Ellis, if he would return to radio. They could build around the PBP and IF and ONLY IF they could get some corporate synergy and cross promotion on KDKA TV and KDKA AM. Why there is so little of this RIGHT NOW is beyond me.

Make no mistakes. Look at what CBS is doing in other markets on underperforming signals by early winter. There will be a new "hot" format of the month club on their other properties and that WILL end up here in Pittsburgh ON the 93.7 frequency - be that classic country, 80s/90s oldies, or classic r&b - whatever CBS is pushing at the time.

CBS' commitment to sports is increasing, not decreasing. They just hired Bruce Gilbert in Dallas, it's probably just a matter of time until he starts to work with stations in multiple markets.

I don't care if CBS reincarnates Howard Cosell. I beg to differ on how much longer CBS is going to let this particular station fail.

I just hope that 1250 buys an FM Station and make it ESPN because The Fan sucks only good show is 10a-2p Vinnie & Cook

There's probably not an FM to buy and a sports station on FM wouldn't make enough to justify the cost of buying one. So it's a highly unlikely scenario.

I've gone through the list several times on this board, there's no FM station for ESPN to buy.

I personally find Vinnie a difficult listen with the accent.

ESPN 540 - anyone ?
I never understood why ESPN didn't pick them up and do what ESPN Radio Cleveland does. Has one primary signal with basically all local shows and then has all the national shows on a daytime signal.
This way Brystal would be happy because all their national hosts would clear in Pittsburgh, yet they could still have the local Pittsburgh feel they want to have.

This is also a place they can clear all those awful first round baseball games played on Wednesday afternoons during Football season.

The 540 frequency is being wasted on a format that nobody listens to. Put Radio Disney on 1250 or buy the time on another local AM'er.

Some years they have, in fact, run the afternoon baseball playoff games on 540.

ESPN owns 1250. They do not own 540, Birach does (although I believe 540 originates from Ardmore Blvd).

The same owner (not ESPN) owns both signals in Cleveland.

All CBS FM's are for sale.

One thing against ESPN moving to 540; for approximately 40 years (or more) 1250 has been the leading sports frequency in Pittsburgh.

There's something to be said for that.

Have you ever listened to 540 during the day? It is the BEST daytime signal in the market by miles. Clean and loud from Wheeling to Clarksburg to Indiana to around I-80...
