Fan Shuffles Line-Up

I've also heard 1250 400 miles away from Pittsburgh.

That would be a freak atmospheric condition. You can barely hear it in Cranberry a lot of days.

I have picked them up at night in the Virginia Beach-Tidewater area on several occasions.

Part- That would actually be when I lived 400 miles away from Pittsburgh, and I called Myron Cope up so much he referred to me as "Tennessee."

They must get one heck of a skywave, because you can't listen to them at night in the North Hills or Greensburg.

In general now I find 1250's signal to be weak and noisy, compared to 540 being the loudest and cleanest in the market.

a lot of that is due to the IBOC. I live relatively close to their towers, they are the strongest AM on my dial
by far. But I have great difficulty tuning them (have to muddle through about 30kHz of hissing and static on
either side of a very narrow audio signal that sounds like an old-school long distance phone call)

I am in agreement with Parttimer when it comes to Vinnie. He is WAY too New York for my taste. That accent is very annoying. Besides, he is on opposite Stan and Guy. I can't imagine anyone listening to Chi Chi and Cook when they can listen to Stan and Guy.

The lineup on the Fan at 2am on Friday Night/Saturday morning is great listening.

I turned it on shortly before 2, and the guy that was on was signing off. he let me know that he'd be back on after the Steelers game for discussion. But what he didn't tell me was who was coming next. It was with good reason. The Fans 2am lineup is "The Best of the Fan". I got to hear bits of shows from Thursday.

I would think if you aren't going to have your own show in the wee hours, running some syndicated show would be a better option than playing clips that are two days old.

Actually, I kind of liked the recorded stuff.

If I'm up at that hour, I've probably missed the interview or the comment made by a drive time host the other day. This is my second chance to hear a news making interview.

In my opinion, two days old for a "Best of" show isn't that old. NBC would have loved for "Best of Carson" to have been that contemporary.

I enjoy the "Best Of the Fan" as well. It makes more sense to run this type of programming overnight than the live, local "talent" that they had been airing. It gives the listener a sampling of all the shows on "The Fan".

In this case it was outdated.

And while I agree that replaying some important interviews is a good thing, their choices that night weren't the best.

Part of the best of was Vinnie talking about an interview that would be on Friday's show. Perhaps they aired that interview later in the "Best of". But hearing what is coming up on a show that is already over is kind of pointless.

At one point, they played a caller saying that preseason games were a waste. The hosts than gave a pro and a con while asking me the listener to call in three times. (Pretty difficult thing to do when nobody's on).

Finally, there wasn't anyone letting me know the results of the day.

Perhaps a "Pittsburgh Sports Center" where they have someone give the important sports news of the day and replay the important interviews would make it a better show.

I listen to the Fan a fair bit at work. I would be hard pressed to fill a 30 minute "best of the fan" segment on most days, let alone 4 hours. They have very few guests, the callers aren't that interesting and the hosts ran out of things to talk to each other about about 4 months ago.

I'm not disagreeing with the strategy for filling those hours, but I would change the name: "The BFD Show: Boring Fan Ditties" or something.
