FanDuel RSNs may shut down

with the collapse of FanDeul RSNs, i wouldn't be surprised if the big winners is Victory+, ESPN and Amazon as they could possibly expand to RSN style coverage of local sports teams in the NHL, NBA & MLB as well as college and high school sports. i know in Dallas the Stars and Texas Rangers had deals with Victory+ to stream their coverage (with select Stars games airing on KDFW Fox 4 & KDFI More 27 and Rangers games on KDAF CW 33 in Dallas) as they were one of the first teams to bail from Bally's Sports/FanDuel Sports Network Southwest along with the Mavericks (who moved their games to their in house Mavs TV streaming service and WFAA 8 & KFAA 29 Over The Air). only pro sports team still on FDSNSW is the San Antonio Spurs.

Victory Minus sucks!!

Can you progress beyond the name-calling befitting a pimply adolescent and provide a bit of detail for those of us who are unfamiliar with Victory+? Apologies, of course, if you ARE a pimply adolescent. You'll grow out of that phase, trust me. At least the adolescent part.

Whatever happens, MLB and other leagues will be getting much less than they did under the RSN model when it was in its heyday.

Some clubs will take a significant financial hit since they made some salary commitments likely projecting they'd continue to receive that level of payment for local rights.

Here is more this time specific to NBA games affecting how NBA games will broadcast in 2027-2028.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has discussed a plan with several streaming-focused distributors to offer locally-televised games over the Internet and without a cable package, according to a report published this week.

The report, from the Sports Business Journal, said the league has approached Google-owned YouTube TV, Amazon’s Prime Video, Disney’s ESPN and sports streamer DAZN about offering locally-televised games from regional sports networks, including games from 13 teams that are currently distributed through Main Street Sports Group by way of their FanDuel Sports-branded channels.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver had previously indicated that the league was targeting the 2027-28 season for a centralized local streaming solution, but the impending collapse of Main Street Sports Group has accelerated the timetable.

Industry sources cited by Sports Business Journal believe the potential package of local streaming rights could be worth billions of dollars to the league.

This will cause some scrambling for later games and the early playoffs this season then. Not unexpected, but it was difficult to take action until Main Street made this clear. RIP RSNs.

The article says the shutdown will happen after the first round of the NHL playoffs. The NHL season ends on the 16th, and the first round of its playoffs will take nearly two further weeks to complete.

I went with the two week notification referenced in the article. I hope it stretches out as you note as it will make it far more likely that viewers will be less impacted.

There are 13 NBA teams and 7 NHL teams that deal with FanDuel Sports Network.
Most of their employees are going to be laid off on April 15th, which is a few days after the NBA and NHL regular seasons conclude. There are not any NBA postseason rights with FanDuel, but there are hockey postseason rights.

Two of those seven NHL teams have clinched a playoff spot, and a couple more are still in the hunt, so FanDuel won't totally shut down until late April/early May. But several of the networks will likely close earlier than that, like Kansas City and St. Louis, once the Blue are eliminated.

EDIT: I see my Googling disagreed with CTListener. He was correct, the final NHL games are on April 16th. So presumably the networks with NHL rights won't fold until at least that date.
