Fantastic Oldies Game!

"Long Distance Information give me Memphis Tennessee.
Help me find a party trying to get in touch with me."

There's Chuck Berry makin' it merry, and in addition to Chuck and Johnny Rivers, you can't forget about the great instumental version of Memphis by Lonnie Mack!

OLD RIVERS was a great sad song by Walter Brennan, there was a take-off of it by someone, I can't remember who. The funniest part of the spoof being, "he spent his whole life eating ground round".

"Don't you leave your food on the table,
Why it's because of those crawling bugs,
they will eat up all of your food,
and go hopping, and skipping, and crawling for more!

That's "Roaches" by The Court Jesters!

DON'T throw Your Love Away was a so-so hit by The Searchers in the british invasion period.
Very intense lyric, don't throw your love away oh no no no! Cause you might need it someday. (Heavy stuff).

I actually found a doowop version of "Don't Throw Your Love Away" in my collection recently. I was going to convert it to an mp3 but I wasn't crazy enough about it to bother. But now I'm curious to see the name of that group because I don't remember.

I actually like The Searchers version of that song but, if I gotta listen to "Love Potion #9," even though I don't like that song, I want to hear The Clovers version.

Speaking of spoofs, let's give some credit to the incomparable Allan Sherman who poked fun at Petula Clark's big hit "Downtown" with his 1965 recording of "Crazy Downtown."

I figured it wouldn't be too long til someone brought up Sherman. Can't forget Sherman's "Headaches" to the tune of The Marcels' "Heartaches"...that was probably one of his best.

"I've been waiting, oh yeah, a little too long to tell you of my love."

Lyrics from "A Little Too Long" from Ray Pollard and The Wanderers on Onyx Records, the same group who gave us "Great Jumpin' Catfish!"

GREAT Balls of Fire, (Jerry Lee) where did you find that one? I thought I was the only "back of the bin" oldies nut in this discussion.

Nope. There's at least two of us.

"You Must Be Some Kind Of Nut" is a forgotten side by Danny and the Juniors!

It was DANNY Williams who recorded White on White for U.A. Another forgotten favorite, a hit from back a bit, a golden nugget - cause you dug it.

Check your doowop book...I'm not making this one up, and I have the record.

"I Was A Fool" by The Golden Nuggets. Thanks for reminding me of another forgotten gem from my collection!

"Darling forever forever you can torment me, take my love for granted, but I'll always be, just a fool, just a fool, in love with you."

Lyrics to "Forever," best known by The Marvelettes, but also recorded in '64 by "The Four Chevelles," their one and only (I think), the first year of the car!

FOREVER a great song by The Little Dippers, who actually were the Anita Kerr Singers, who also backed up Pete Drake and his singing guitar in later years when he re did it.

He busted on through the doorway
(Yeah-yeah)
Bad as a-he could be
(Yeah-yeah)
Pulled out his pistol, he turned around
He said, 'My name is-a Big Boy Pete'

We mentioned The Olympics "Dance By The Light Of The Moon" the other day, but you can't forget about Big Boy Pete from the same group!

"There's a MOON out Tonight" woe oh oh uuuh, well there should be anyway, Capris 1961, (speaking of Doo Wop). See - I can do lyrics too.

How about one of the best of the girl group songs ever: "Da Doo Ron Ron (When He Walked Me Home)" by the Crystals, led by La La Brooks, and produced by Phil Spector.

So you wanna do lyrics, huh?

Woe Woe Woe Woe Woe
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
Woe Woe Woe Woe Woe

Somebody stole my girl away,
I've been cryin' both night and day
woe woe woe woe woe
oooooooooh yeah.

You can't relax with the stax of wax of "Woe Is Me" from Earl Carol & His Cadillacs!
