Growing a beautiful garden and living off the land was once a top priority of the poor soul who moved in to our former abode which is slated for bulldozing in another few weeks.
Ahh, but what a happy little place it was when we were there. The cat enjoyed it, because it was as close to living on the street as it got without having to really go there; the dog loved the hiding places behind bushes. It was warm and dry in the winter, cool and dry in the summer, and neighbors and friends loved visiting for opera Sundays and brunch. Plenty of rock and roll oldies played as well; 'twas clean enough to be healthy and just messy enough to be happy. But alas, the groundskeeper who never showed up went to his reward and his heirs trashed the place. The neighbors showed up at our new place complaining that they missed us, and knew we were gone when the landscaping went to hell and the outside of the house got weathered from winter algae and not being cleaned twice a year. Although different people were always there every week, it was not the same atmosphere, but one of just lining the pockets of the heirs long enough to allow for demolition permits.
