Fantastic word game

Yet still, despite howls of protest from commentators and columnists throughout the land, Halloween continues its disturbing calendar creep.

Ed: Knowing those distinctions helped keep me employed for four decades. I'm a retired copy editor, having worked at four newspapers. Radio is my hobby/obsession. By the way, your surname is often posted here incorrectly instead of Nielsen for the media rating service. I will defer to you if that error crops up here in the future, as it's only right that an actual Nielson should make the correction.

"Creep", by Radiohead, is a song about feelings of discontent with who you are as a person.

I concede, Director of Linguistics. You've Juan this round.

Who you are as a person will count highly towards your possible nomination to the Executive Board.
We all thought very highly of CT which is why his nomination was accepted quickly. Or kind of quickly. Ok, not quickly at all but you know how those Board of Governor guys are.

rosecity, I direct you to the very first post of this game where it says "You take the last word of the sentence and make a new sentence." Operative word there being sentence. We've required a sentence for almost 17 years. When you joined us, you said that you knew everything about the game. You were quite abrasive about it. That's when I said something about you being a former contributor in disguise. Which I still think, by the way. Regarding that 'length × width × height = volume' contribution, I actually read it as 'length times width times height equals volume' which would be ok. That's why I didn't flag it.

CT, thanks for the linguistics lesson on the previous page. That will cover me for a day or two. I'll need another one for the second half of the week. Thanks wicked muchly!

Your possible nomination to the Executive Board is something you should look forward to.

One quick question: WMC stated "You take the last word of the sentence and make a new sentence." Does that mean you can take only the last word, or do you have to use whatever phrase the previous poster has bolded?

Mr. Director of Linguistics: Is "bold" a verb? If you can italicize, why can't you bold?

You should look forward to the 80s Rockfest each and every Saturday night.

Ed, we have evolved over 16 1/2 years. In the beginning, the clues were single words. Eventually, we started allowing multiple words and phrases. We kind of needed to change. And we required that the person bold the new clue so we could figure out what they were asking their new clue to be. That statement you refer to was taken from the founder of this game on the very first post. Go look at it. I was referring it to rosecity regarding the sentence part of it. We have always required a sentence as he claimed that a full sentence was never required. Obviously it was. So, to summarize, use one sentence and one sentence only. Please bold (yes, bold is a verb) the beginning clue from the previous contribution and your new ending clue. And, now, I'm off to bed. Nighty night!

Saturday night fearures a card with The Rock on it, and he will inevitably tell his opponent of the evening that "it doesn't matter what you think".

The Pro Wrestling Post of the Week (PWPW, as I prefer)

YouTube is a great resource for learning how to break things even more before you call in a professional who actually knows what he's doing.

For those of you keeping score at home, I am now just 22 posts away from my 10,000th Radio Discussions contribution. I'll be expecting a champagne toast and a few gifts to commemoration reaching that milestone.

He's doing something weird with his eyes and it's grossing me out.

As for "bold," Merriam-Webster says it has no legitimate usage as a verb; however, in the media world, "bold" is commonly used as a verb, a shortened form of "boldface." Technically, then, WMC is wrong, but as a print-media person, I'll let him (and others) continue to use "bold" as a verb that way.

"Out" is the opposite of "in."

As for misuse of language, "Google" is not an English-language verb... or is it?

Lately I have felt the need to post comments after all my posts.

It was yesterday until today, but yesterday we called it today. And we called today tomorrow. Tomorrow we will call today yesterday.

Winter, cold weather, ice and snow suck which is why I so enjoy going to sunny Florida.

Not to mention the recruiting efforts for lovely young library interns.

Refreshments in the main cafeteria all day Friday as we celebrate dmargalotti's Quest To 10,000 Contributions (dQT10KC as he may or may not prefer).

Sunny Florida was the scene of one of the worst beat downs ever recorded in NFL history as the Dolphins whipped the Broncos handily this last weekend.

This last weekend also saw the New England Patriots grind out their first victory of what promises to be a dreary season, though not as dreary as the season in store for their vanquished opponents, the New York Jets.
