Favorite channels?

My guess about Yacht Rock moving to Ch 15 at this time of year: remember, recently, SXM lost TikTok radio which was on Ch 4. That has opened another channel for their one-artist or other special channels, probably what they were going to use Ch 15 for. I guess they decided they didn't need two rotating channels in the low side of their dial, and moved Yacht Rock to 15. I see Ch 4 is New Years Nation for the next few days, and is TBA after that, according to the online schedule.

I like many of the SXM channels and, while much of the content is available to stream elsewhere, here's the main reason I subscribe:

Using SXM is like using terrestrial radio. There are no pre-roll ads, the audio levels are consistent and, once you know where your favorite channels are, it's easy to set presets and enjoy.

If terrestrial radio wants to survive, streaming is the way to go, IMHO.

iHeart has taken a good first step (although a few years too late) by adding presets, but if they ditched the pre-rolls and fixed the audio levels I think they'd be able to leap ahead of SXM.

I understand that pre-roll ads are a revenue generator, but that's a short term view. The user experience is key. Without users the ads won't be heard.

I've heard that SXM subscriptions are down but I think that's a separate issue. The rates range from less than $7/mo to over $20/mo depending on how you're willing to play their game.

I agree. I never got the concept of pre-roll ads. To me that’s the equivalent of selecting a preset on your car stereo and finding out the station is in a commercial break. Do you stay with it and wait for the break to end or do you move on to the next preset? You move on to the next preset.

I'm going to miss it because I just cancelled my subscription. I can get the same music on Apple Music. The sports, that's why we have terrestrial radio stations.

Give it a few months and you'll receive a subscription offer that you cannot refuse. Happened to a friend of mine.

My wife (and I) like it because it functions like a radio. She's not one to want to mess with her phone while driving to hear music, she'd just go back to terrestrial.

I saw some posts on Reddit earlier last week that it was coming but didn't hear the spot(s) telling of the change for myself until Christmas Day.
I'm fine with it coming down to a lower channel whenever, but just keep it on 311 year-round too.
I don't think our radio gets 311, so the lower channel is nice

Yes I can. If I have to auto pay then that’s a dealbreaker. I’ve done it before. I never auto pay any bills.

That was by far the biggest complaint I saw when Yacht Rock left 15, far more than in previous years when it went away around Labor Day. Probably because it wasn't promised as permanent at those times but was in 2025. I just like having 311 as a permanent option in case they monkey with YR on the lower channels like in the past few months.

Two more Watercolors fans in the house!!! Awesome! My Buick has SiriusXM capability, but I don't subscribe currently due to income. I already have $251/month car payments, car insurance, rent, credit card debt I'm paying off, $100/month internet bill, $90/month phone bill, tithing, gas/food, and more, plus I'm saving a little bit from each check.
I can easily stream WSBZ on the phone, which saves me from another bill for SiriusXM.

I don't know what that is like. I like City Lights which used to play in a nursing home where some people from my church were.

1st Wave 33, 80’s on 8, Classic Rewind. On a side note, I know 1st Wave can be unpredictable sometimes even during regular programming, but today they’re showing they played Def Leppard’s “Photograph” at 9:12 a.m. - but whatever.

Was it a special show? I’ve heard Richard Blade on there play Hey Jude because he was interviewing an artist who sited that as his musical influence.

On that note, I think there are too many specialty shows. It seems like every time I want to listen to ‘80s on 8 on the weekends, I get stuck with that Working Class DJ show with Rick Springfield. He is not entertaining and he goes outside the ‘80s format. That kind of show should be on demand only. Leave ‘80s on 8 open for those who want to hear the regular format.
