I also agree there are those that lean Classic Rock, i.e., the COX Eagle formats and those that lean Pop... most of what we used to call oldies and CBS has most of those in the majors. To my ear...
1. AMDR KRTH or WLS-FM
2. Midday CBSFM or WOMC
3. PMDR KRTH or WRBQ
4. Nights... it's all Tom Kent all the time (I think he's pretty good actually)
my 2 cents

Three. I don't know what the largest market is with the third kind, but Atlanta has 97.1 the River. Raleigh, NC, has WRVA-FM (also The River). These are stations that just play classic rock, though their definition of rock is different from "classic rock" radio.KOOL Listener Lauren said:I absolutely agree with John about there being two kinds of classic hits formats these days. Well-said!
Oldies/Classic Hits: WLS-FM
Classic Hits: WCBS-FM
As a lover of oldies/classic hits here in Phoenix, I've been impressed by both (and both stations are like a breath of fresh air these days). Oh how things change...

Sounds more like an MOR then a rock or R&B heavy classic hits format. A nice blend of rock, R&B, disco and pop from 64-79. They even throw in some country crossovers too. I stream the station a lot here in Houston since KGLK 107.5 turned into a 70s-80s rock format (whose format overlaps sister station 80s rock KHPT 106.9)
Jim Croce is rock to me. I did say their defintion is different from that of stations called "classic rock".MicroPhoney said:Unless they've changed The River in Atlanta is Classic Hits not Classic Rock... at least if they still drop in the Jim Croce or other pop things amongst all the rock leaning hits.
