What are some of your favorite radio stations in Massachusetts?

I've been spending quite a bit of time in north-central Mass. lately, and there isn't much on the dial that impresses me. The best of the lot in my mind is WJDF in Orange, the last of a seemingly dying breed of locally owned/operated radio. I'm still not quite sure whether they're trying to be AC or HAC, but half the fun is trying to figure it out. Good overall sound quality, decent production and the cheesy hyper-localism that has long since disappeared from many markets, despite liberal use of automation. At least they haven't set up a dish and gone the "set it and forget it" route as many small-town operators have.

My second choice would be (if I'm far enough east) Framingham's (Boston's) WROR. I grew up listening to Loren & Wally on the old WVBF, and now 20-some-odd years later they can still make me laugh out loud.

IMHO, the radio industry has gone down the toilet in recent years. :(
It's a sad situation when I'm unable to find a station to listen to for more than 10 minutes at a time. I enjoy the music on WPLM-FM (99.1), when not being bombarded by advertising. Currently, my favorite station is WJIB-AM (740) but due to my distance from their transmitter have problems with electrical interference.

I used to love radio and often had trouble deciding on which station to listen to.
Those were the days, my friend. :'(

I see I'm in the minority, but my fave is classical WCRB. (The recent frequency swap is regrettable.) I also enjoy WODS, though its oldies really aren't. At least 103.3 hasn't become another JACK-FM.

HERE!! HERE!! ON WATD--- still getting it done!!

I can`t get WJIB down here in Plymouth, but I can get WJTO during the day

I would kill for a decent standards format.Three AC stations in this market are too much.

WMAS 94.7 is pretty good. I prefer it to CT's 100.5. At least it has more variety and not all Elton John all the time. It's on my favorites in my car.

WTBR-FM out of Taconic High School has an incredible organic mix of classic rock, Good Morning Pittsfield with John Krol each weekday morning, Mike's Amazing Oldies, Chuck Wright's Night Flight, sports talk about Alex Conklin -- it truly is a gem in the heart of the Berkshires.

WTBR is a Taconic High School station and is managed by my news guy Larry Kratka. It gives our commerical stations a run for the money. I love it!
