Favorite Meterologist in your Market?

In Rhode Island my favorite is Gary Ley. I like his approach, his friendliness and his sense of humor. He's very personable and has a very good overall presentation that makes watching the Weather enjoyable. Whenever I watch him I get the feeling that he actually knows what he's talking about. I don't get that feeling with other Meteorogists in town. Other Forecasters talk about weather but Gary seems to Live Weather! So he is by far my favorite from Providence.

In Boston my personal favorite is not such an easy choice. WBZ's Bruce Schoegler would have been my absolute favorite if he were still on the air. He would have ranked right up at top with how I feel about Gary Ley. A clear Cut Winner! However one check of WBZ's website tells me that Bruce isn't even there anymore. I guess he retired. So my vote is now split between Harvey Leonard and Todd Gross. They both seem pretty good to me.

Favorite Meterologist in Hartford/New Haven

In Hartford/New Haven, the "senior" weather forecasters are as follows:

WFSB-TV (CBS) channel 3 Hartford: Bruce DePrest (pronounced DEH-priest)
WTNH-TV (ABC) channel 8 New Haven: Geoff Fox
WVIT-TV (NBC) channel 30 New Britain: Brad Field

Geoff has always been a bit kooky on his delivery and has a sense of humor. Brad always seems to have a tone of panic in his voice, especially if a nor'easter is coming. Bruce is usually a no-nosense forecaster. All three of these men have been with their stations continuously since the 1980s. In terms of longevity, Dr. Mel Goldstein ("HOT-ferd!") has been connected to Connecticut TV (primarily WTNH-TV) even longer than these three. Mark Dixon of WFSB-TV is easy to take and came here from Tulsa, OK about three years ago.

The "senior" forecaster nowadays at WTIC-TV (FOX) channel 61 of Hartford is John Carroll, who replaced Justin Keifer. That's strange, since Michael Friedman has been with WTIC-TV much longer. Personally, I can't sand John's demeanor during 61's 10 PM newscast. The worst offender, by far, has got to be Scot Haney of WFSB-TV (channel 3). I don't want to rip on him here but watch one weather segment with him, regardless of the time of day. You'll easily see why I HATE him.

Re: Favorite Meterologist...

Favorites for me:

Boston - Todd Gross at HDH
Hartford - Brad Field at WVIT and Dr. Mel Goldstein on WTNH
Springfield - Adam Strzempko on WWLP

I think my all time favorite of anywhere is that Schwartz guy on The Weather Channel. He is just too funny and really is an excellent weather-caster.

Harvey Leonard at WCVB is one of the best in the country. I have never particularly cared for Dick Albert (is unwatchable for me).

Brad Field was very good way back in the early 80's when he was at WLNE in Providence. They had a "Weathermation" computer system that beat the socks off of the competition (WPRI and WJAR). Weather was the only thing worth watching on WLNE. Of course, he moved to WVIT when WLNE hired John Ghiorse. I remember his last broadcast at WLNE.

Re: Favorite Meterologist...

Well for me in Connecticut I think these four are the best for weather:

Bruce DePrest & Mark Dixon at WFSB Channel 3
Brad Field & Bob Maxon at WVIT Channel 30

For the morning news when I wake up I put on Channel 3 and watch Scot Haney, he really isn't that bad just likes to joke around sometimes but he can be serious. Now I am not to big on the weather guys at 8 but Dr. Mel is the best they got.

Re: Favorite Meterologist...

Scot Haney not bad? Hello, what are you watching? The second that idiot comes on I change it over to either 8 or 30. I can't say what I really think of him, but I'd like to.

KML he is entitled to his opinion just like you are yours.
Right?

OKAY....In Maine, we've got terrific meterological talent in Todd Gutner (WCSH-6) and Tom Chisholm (WMTW-8). Dave Santoro (formerly of WGME-TV 13) just retired and it's still too early to tell about his replacement, Mark Rosenthal.
