Favorite triangle radio host ever?

If we're allowed to go way back, my vote would go to a person who passed away before some folks here were probably even born. I'm speaking of Jimmy Capps, who hosted the late night love songs show "Our Best to You" on WPTF from 1947 until 1962. He was heard on other Raleigh stations in the mid 1960s, including WKIX/850, as well as a network of regional radio stations that aired his show on tape. Jimmy Capps died in 1967 at the age of 47. No WPTF personality, and perhaps no other RADIO personality in the Triangle, was ever more popular than Jimmy Capps, who sometimes commanded as much as 80% of all radio listening during his 10pm-12midnight show. About five or six years ago Jimmy Capps was inducted into the NC Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame--an honor that was way overdue. About 20 years ago WPTF ran a four-hour tribute show narrated by Bill Hoke that featured a lot the music played by Jimmy and interviews with listeners and Jimmy's colleages, including recording engineer Larry Gardner. It was a great show, and next year--the 40th anniversary of Jimmy Capps' death--would be an appropriate time for WPTF to run it at least once more.
