FEDMED RECRUITING WALKING WOUNDED

There is a very touchy-feely ad in allaccess recruiting jocks for all shifts at Fedmed, and it looks like they are trying to attract the CCr's who just got cut. The ad touts the benefits of working for a privately owned company and proclaims that they are "personality driven", but it doesn't mention the muzzle, shackles, whips and chains that come with it. With all the talent hitting the pavement recently, should this ad make the current Fedmed staff a bit nervous? They are asking anyone to apply regardless of shift. It's been too quiet lately, anyone else hearing rumbles about Fedmed?

When I worked there I rather enjoyed the shackles, whips and chains. Kind of a fringe benefit ;)

I would also like to know how many FedMed employees are fans of Alice in Chains ...

IMO: too many.
Not enough Metallica.
Not enough GOOD Van Halen
Insert your own insults and/or opinions here.

And when I was a FedMed boy, the chains were used more than the whips. They saved those for the sales goons...

For those of us who have never worked there, you got some 'splainin to do.

Some of the management have apparently been through the Dick Cheney School for Medeivial Motivation. I'm a survivor, but I hear things are tougher in the southern regions. Just trying to confirm rumors before believing them. Or spreading them! ;D

Actually, they had a special form of motivation for the sales dogs.......it was called "the treatment". The place always smelled of catfish and burning rubber after Walt would hold those marathon meetings. And the cleaning people used to complain.....

Juan.....we need to talk...

I have been fortunate to work for two pretty good family owned companies in my radio career. One is my current employer. Schurz.

The other one would be from the 8 years I spent at Federated Media.

There are thousands of former Clear Channel employees who would love to be working at a family owned company like Federated Media.

If you perform, you will grow within the company or in my case, be given the tools to succeed elsewhere.

Federated Media demands only one thing of its employees. You work hard and you achieve success.

k105mark, easy, dude. To be clear, I worked for FedMed in two markets over a 6-year span. Everyday was fun, except the last one. I have used them as a reference many times, and many times they have been professional and truthful. It was fun working there…the chains Juan and I are talking about were a fringe....

It's alright.

Believe me, I saw many friends get the pink slip at Fed Med. But I had a good time there. I'm glad you did to.

It was for me a very good place to hang my hat every day.

I'm just glad to see somebody put out a welcome mat. And this time of year, chains wouldn't be a bad thing if you live down a long country road!

Meager thought it may be, I'd like to hold on to my paycheck, so I'll refrain from bursting into fits of tearful laughter. All I can say is either you worked there under different management, or it was long ago and things have changed. I worked for CC and loved it. It depends on the station you're in. Looks like the same could be said for Fedmed I guess.

If FedMed is grabbing up talent (if there is any to be had) I wish they'd send them to the Fort Wayne North branch and teach them to break up the predictable that goes on there. I can set my watch by what they do.
Now don't mistake me for hating the programming...92.3 I can listen to almost all day. Yes even Bob and Tom; we won't argue that here. 98.9, well, SOME songs I like, some I think might work better on an HD channel. (Mr. Dille are you setting a timeline? When do we get HD service on these channels????? PLEASE!) Yes I like my metal, but "old" hard rock and "new" hard rock don't mix in my mind. Maybe we just need an alternative station again...

Oh yeah...
Just what did you mean, Doug B. about "we need to talk..."
Is it because I called the sales folks "goons?"
I think I got that when I was working at one of the fine FW TV stations...
When I was at FedMed Bob Elliott was the GM, and he looked out for me, so maybe I see things differently. And I was only 18 when I started down there...overnights when I could let the satellite do the work for me ;D

It simply means that I'd, at some point, like to chat with you about your experiences there, since we have some shared, common ground. Nothing more, nothing less.

Gotcha. I bet though that you have the better experience. But we have walked the same halls more or less.

and then they go and do this:

"FEDERATED MEDIA Country WBYT/SOUTH BEND, IN PD DAVE ALLEN tells ALL ACCESS that night personality SHANNON has exited the station due to budget cuts. The station is now running wall-to-wall music from 7-11p (CT)."

Lots of dead and wounded. Even at FedMed. Not just Shannon....not just in South Bend.

Lots of stories to be told, too. Doug, I haven't seen you since you, Chris, Tuna and I shared an Atzburger, all those years ago.

Maybe a radio reunion party?

Hey Diminutive One! I remember the Atzburger. Sure do miss Tuna.
As for the party. I’m in!! Mack Berry threw the last radio reunion party I attended right after he had gotten his butt tossed out onto Maples Rd. He billed it as “The Going Away Party they forgot to give you when you left FedMed”. Must have been 30 of us there.
I do need to mention again that while our parting was less than pleasant, they continued to give me good references for years. Guess they were damned happy to get me outta the building.

EXACTLY. This is what I was worried about in my OP. When the allaccess ad first went up (it's been posted again), people from other stations seemed happy to see the "welcome mat," but a giant gasp could be heard among many current Fedmedr's. There are lots of unemployed jocks out there who would gladly work for much less than the current staff. The rumblings began, that existing jocks be "budget cutted" and be replaced by someone for less money. It's ironic that they are luring in other talent by touting their "family" business environment, all the while slashing the throats of their current family members.
